With a stern warning, and unemployment looming, she's offered one last chance to rescue her career. Julia embarks on an unlikely journey to the ‘Heart of Dixie’—Eufaula, Alabama—home to magnificent mansions, sweet tea, and the annual Pilgrimage.
Julia arrives, soon charmed by the lovely city and her handsome host, but her stay is marred by a shocking discovery. Can Julia's story save her career, Eufaula, and the annual Pilgrimage? ~~ synopsis from Goodreads
My thoughts on Dancing Naked in Dixie ~~
I remember when Lauren's other book Stay Tuned was on tour. I could have just kicked myself for not being a part of that tour. It sounded so good and bloggers were raving about it. When I saw that her next novel was going on tour, I signed up right away. And I am so glad that I got the chance to read Dancing Naked!
I started this book on Saturday morning and read it in it's entirety by the end of the weekend. I have not found myself lost in a book like that for a long time. I loved it from the very first chapter!
Julia is a writer for a magazine who gets send to Alabama (what? where?) for her next job. And it's a 'get it right this time or you will be fired' kind of assignment. She heads to Eufaula, Alabama to get the story and then to head right back home. Easy? Of course it will be.
She does not take into account the slow pace of the South and the friendliness (or unfriendliness, in some cases) of the people in the town. The longer she stay, the more entrenched she becomes in the doings of the town and the people who live there.
I have never traveled to the South but Lauren has written such a great story about the charming life there, that I would love to experience it for myself. I love her writing, it flows so well that I just kept reading and reading.
I love that there are the 'good guys' and the 'bad guys' and I found myself rooting for the good guys and hating the bad guys. I loved watching the romantic parts of the book develop (or come screeching to a halt) and I also loved the mystery and secrets that so many of the characters were involved with. And the book is so funny in parts too. I loved that it made me laugh out loud in places. For example this line ~~ 'As you can imagine, everyone's as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rockers.' What a visual ~ so funny!
Dancing Naked in Dixie (great title, isn't it?) is a fabulous, fun read that has a little bit of everything; romance, mystery, humor and secrets. It's got something for everyone. I highly recommend it for a good time in the South!
