This OR That #Giveaway Week 22 ~ Saving Grace by Jane Green OR Looking for Alaska by John Green #SavingGrace #LookingForAlaska

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves and to share some of the many books I have. It's a way for me to cull my collection and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

*****************

This week, I have two books by authors with the last name of Green, no relation. Didn't mean for that to happen, it just did.

I discovered I have two copies of Saving Grace on my bookshelves. Lucky for one of you! I've read a couple of Jane's books and enjoyed them. I haven't read this one yet, but I really want to and will someday.

Saving Grace
by Jane Green
Mass Market Paperback ~ Pub date June 2015

Grace and Ted Chapman are widely regarded as the perfect literary power couple. Ted is a successful novelist and Grace, his wife of twenty years, is beautiful, stylish, carefree, and a wonderful homemaker. But what no one sees, what is churning under the surface, is Ted's rages. His mood swings. And the precarious house of cards that their lifestyle is built upon.

When Ted's longtime assistant and mainstay leaves, the house of cards begins to crumble and Grace, with dark secrets in her past, is most vulnerable. She finds herself in need of help but with no one to turn to…until the perfect new assistant shows up out of the blue. To the rescue comes Beth, a competent young woman who can handle Ted and has the calm efficiency to weather the storms that threaten to engulf the Chapman household. Soon, though, it's clear to Grace that Beth might be too good to be true.

This new interloper might be the biggest threat of all, one that could cost Grace her marriage, her reputation, and even her sanity. With everything at stake and no one to confide in, Grace must find a way to save herself before it is too late.

Powerful and riveting, Jane Green's Saving Grace will have you on the edge of your seat as you follow Grace on her harrowing journey to rock bottom and back.

*****************

I read this one just last year, to cross off one of the prompts for a challenge I was doing (state). It has been around quite a few years and has won a ton of awards. It was a great read.

Looking for Alaska
by John Green
Paperback ~ Pub date December 2006

Before.

Miles “Pudge” Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave “the Great Perhaps” even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then. . . .

After.

Nothing is ever the same.

My thoughts about Take a Hike ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"'I shouldn't have hit send. What I should've done is delete my ridiculous words and gone home without embarrassing myself."

June, the catering girl, just wants to meet some friends at work. She sends out an email inviting everyone to go hiking with her on Saturday. Caleb takes her up on her invite.... and then the sparks start flying. And the fun begins.

I have read several of Sophie-Leigh's books and have loved them all. They are always light and fun, with memorable characters who usually get themselves into interesting situations and relationships. I find myself reading her stories with a smile on my face and a random chuckle here and there.

Take a Hike is another fun-filled tale that I totally adored. I loved June and Caleb and enjoyed watching the chemistry develop between the two of them. My plan is to read one of the stories in this anthology every day until I get through them all. If the rest of them are as good and as fun as Sophie's, I know I am going to enjoy each and every one of them. And.... I'll discover some new-to-me authors as well. Sweet!

I received an ARC of Take a Hike from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! Chance Romance by Lisa Becker ~ My Thoughts #ChanceRomance

Congrats Lisa
on the release today of
Chance Romance!

Chance Romance: An Opposites Attract Instalove Story by Lisa Becker
Contemporary Short Story, 101 pages
Published July 27, 2021

When they meet by chance through mutual friends, can a nerdy intellectual and former jock move past their own insecurities to turn a weekend fling into lasting love?

Self-proclaimed bookworm Jackie Mayerhoffer’s love of romance novels propelled her to write a bestseller, but at the expense of her own relationship. While a staunch champion of happily ever afters for everyone else, she’s pessimistic about her own prospects. Dogged by low self-esteem, she feels even lower being stuck on a long weekend with a group of happy couples.

Logan Chance dropped out of college to play soccer professionally in Europe, but his hopes of glory were dashed by a career ending injury. Since his return to the states, he’s struggled to grow a small business and help support his brother with disabilities. Plagued by uncertainty, he agrees to a much-needed weekend away in Malibu with a childhood friend.

Over four days of beach play, board games, and shared meals, opposites attract when the lonely author meets the troubled jock. Can they move past their own insecurities to turn a fling or “chance romance” into lasting love? And is it a chance romance after all?

If you love an opposites attract romance filled with witty humor, steamy fun, and a swoon-worthy happily ever after, you’ll enjoy this short, instalove novel from award-winning romance author Lisa Becker.  Buy now or read for free with Kindle Unlimited.

My thoughts about Chance Romance ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"'I'm going to castrate him,' Kendra fumes, hanging up the phone and balling her hands into a fist."

Oh man, there is so much to love about Lisa Becker's new book, Chance Romance. I loved the premise—a group of friends coming together for a fun-filled summer weekend giveaway! It was great reading about all the fun activities they had planned. I loved the mix of characters and the way they all meshed—for the most part. I loved watching opposites attract, with chemistry that wouldn't quit and with just the right amount of heat.

The first scene takes place in a bookstore, so that really grabbed my attention. As a reader and booklover, I loved it! How could you not? And the main character is a writer, so that was another win-win for me. I loved that we got an inside look at some of the writer's angst that goes into creating a story.

Jackie and Logan (loved them both!) are thrown together for the weekend with this group of friends, both of them sort of feeling like fifth wheels, not sure why they agreed to go along. Well, could two people be more different? And why do they both feel this crazy attraction to each other, kind of like a love-hate thing? Sparks are gonna fly!

It was so much fun watching these two struggle with their beliefs and emotions, as they tried to understand what exactly was drawing them together. When it was all said and done, when I got to the end of the story, I honestly had a smile on my face. And possibly a tear or two! That's how emotionally invested I was in these two people.

I absolutely loved this story and can't stop thinking about it and the interesting lives of Jackie and Logan. You really need to put Chance Romance on your summer TBR list.... now!

I received an ARC of Chance Romance from the author and this is my honest opinion.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? July 26, 2021 #IMWAYR

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

**************************************

This is two weeks worth of reads for me. The last two weeks have been hard for our family. We have been dealing with the declining health of my dear MIL and she ended up passing away on July 16th. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday in May so it wasn't unexpected but the end happened quickly. And then we had to deal with getting rid of 90+ years of accumulated stuff. That was a lot of work but we did it.

So I was busy with all of that and pretty much offline for a couple of weeks. But I'm back and have a lot of reviews to write to catch up.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week.
Happy reading!

Love at First is a sweet, emotional, character-filled story that I just loved. You can read my thoughts here.

Love at First
by Kate Clayborn
ARC ~ Pub date February 2021

Sixteen years ago, a teenaged Will Sterling saw—or rather, heard—the girl of his dreams. Standing beneath an apartment building balcony, he shared a perfect moment with a lovely, warm-voiced stranger. It’s a memory that’s never faded, though he’s put so much of his past behind him. Now an unexpected inheritance has brought Will back to that same address, where he plans to offload his new property and get back to his regular life as an overworked doctor. Instead, he encounters a woman, two balconies above, who’s uncannily familiar...

No matter how surprised Nora Clarke is by her reaction to handsome, curious Will, or the whispered pre-dawn conversations they share, she won’t let his plans ruin her quirky, close-knit building. Bound by her loyalty to her adored grandmother, she sets out to foil his efforts with a little light sabotage. But beneath the surface of their feud is an undeniable connection. A balcony, a star-crossed couple, a fateful meeting—maybe it’s the kind of story that can't work out in the end. Or maybe, it’s the perfect second chance...

A sparkling and tender novel from the acclaimed author of Love Lettering, full of bickering neighbors, surprise reunions, and the mysterious power of love that fans of Christina Lauren, Sarah Hogle, and Emily Henry will adore.

Release Day! The Therapist by B.A. Paris ~ My Thoughts #TheTherapist #NetGalley

  Happy Release Day!

The Therapist

The Therapist by B.A. Paris
Domestic Thiller, 320 pages
Published July 13th 2021 by St. Martin's Press

The multimillion-copy New York Times bestselling author B.A. Paris returns to her heartland of gripping psychological suspense in The Therapist--a powerful tale of a house that holds a shocking secret.

When Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in The Circle, a gated community of exclusive houses, it is everything they’ve dreamed of. But appearances can be deceptive…

As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before.

Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before. But no one wants to talk about it. Her neighbors are keeping secrets and things are not as perfect as they seem…

My thoughts about The Therapist ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"My office is small, perfect and minimalistic. It's decorated in calming shades of gray, with just two chairs; a cocoon-style gray one for my clients and a pale leather one for me."

BA Paris has done it again. She has created an edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep you guessing and enthralled until the very end. As with her other books, The Therapist grabbed me from the very first chapter and kept me in it's clutches until the very last page. I am never disappointed in her stories.

This is a book full of relationships, most of them strained and troubled. Alice has to work hard to try to find the good ones and to try to figure out who she can trust—who is on her side and who isn't? And then there are all the secrets. What aren't her neighbors telling her?

I totally loved the mystery, suspense, and secrets of this story. The Therapist is a spell-binding thriller that I know you will love as well.

I received a copy of The Therapist from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

This OR That #Giveaway Week 20 ~ Easter Bunny Murder by Leslie Meier OR Honey-Baked Homicide by Gayle Leeson #EasterBunnyMurder #HoneyBakedHomicide

This week, I've got two different cozy mysteries. Both are from very popular series. I have to admit that I have not read either of these series. Have you?

Easter Bunny Murder
by Leslie Meier
Hardcover ~ Pub date January 2013

Spring has sprung in Tinker's Cove, and Lucy Stone has a mile-long to-do list. From painting eggs with her grandson, to preparing the perfect Easter feast, to reviving her garden after a long, cold winter, she hardly has time to hunt for a killer with a deadly case of spring fever...

Lucy has always loved covering the annual Easter egg hunt for the Pennysaver. Hosted by elderly socialite Vivian Van Vorst at Pine Point, her luxurious oceanfront estate, it's a swanky event where the grown-ups sip cocktails while their children search for eggs that are as likely to contain savings bonds as they are jelly beans. But when Lucy arrives with her three-year-old grandson, VV's normally welcoming gates are locked, and a man dressed as the Easter Bunny emerges only to drop dead moments later… Lucy discovers that the victim is Van Vorst Duff, VV's grandson, and soon learns that not all is as it seems at idyllic Pine Point, where the champagne and caviar seem to be running dry.

Always a social butterfly, VV has been skipping lunch dates with friends, and her much-needed donations to local charities have stopped with no explanation. Maybe she's going senile, or maybe her heirs are getting a little too anxious to take over her estate… As Lucy gathers a basketful of suspects, she's convinced someone's been hunting for a lot more than eggs, and she'll have to chase the truth down a rabbit hole before the killer claims another victim…

New Release! A Cup of Silver Linings by Karen Hawkins ~ My Thoughts #ACupOfSilverLinings #NetGalley

A Cup of Silver Linings

A Cup of Silver Linings by Karen Hawkins
Series: Dove Pond #2
Magical Realism, 352 pages
Published July 6th 2021 by Gallery Books

From New York Times bestselling author Karen Hawkins comes another book in her Dove Pond series—and this time Ava’s famous tea leaves spell trouble ahead.

Ava Dove—the sixth of seven daughters of the famed Dove family, and owner of Ava’s Landscaping and Specialty Gourmet Tea—is frantic.

Just as she is getting ready to open her fabulous new tearoom, her herbal teas have gone wonky. Suddenly, the tea that is supposed to help people sleep is startling them awake with vivid dreams; the tea that infuses romance back into tired marriages is causing people to blurt out their darkest secrets; and the tea that helps people find happiness is making them spend hours staring into mirrors.

Meanwhile, living four doors down the road from Ava, sixteen-year-old Kristen Foster’s life has just crashed down around her. After her mother’s death, Kristen’s grandmother Ellen has arrived in town to sweep Kristen off to a white mansion on a hill in distant Raleigh. But Kristen has had enough ‘life changes’ and is desperate to stay with her friends in her beloved hometown of Dove Pond. But to do so means Kristen must undertake a quest she’s been avoiding her entire life—finding her never-been-there-for-her father.

With the help of an ancient herbal remedy book found in her attic by her sister, Ava realizes that Kristen holds the key to fixing her unstable tea leaves. So Ava throws herself into Kristen’s search, even convincing Kristen’s grandmother Ellen to help, too. Together, the three embark on a reluctant but magical journey of healing, friendship, and family that will delight fans of Alice Hoffman, Kate Morton, and Sarah Addison Allen.

My thoughts about A Cup of Silver Linings ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Standing beside her daughter's open grave, Ellen Foster dug her fingernails into her palm as the annoying sound of a kazoo wafted through the wintery, pine-scented air."

I absolutely loved the first book in the series, The Book Charmer, and anxiously waited for book 2 to come out. This one did not disappoint and I love it just as much!

I am truly fascinated by the idea of inanimate objects being magical or mystical—whatever you want to call it—coming to life or offering healing and insight to the people and things around them. This Dove Pond series does just that, with books that communicate with the librarian and tea that knows just what people need.

In A Cup of Silver Linings, Ava mixes up a bad batch of tea and things really start going wrong for her, and for others in the community. As she struggles to right the wrong that has happened, a young girl, Kristin, has had her whole world turned upside down. Can the books, the tea, and the community come together to make it all right again?

I really love this whole series and hope that this author has many more stories to tell. I'm pretty sure the ending of this story sets up the beginning of the next book. Yay!

I highly recommend A Cup of Silver Linings, as well as The Book Charmer, if you like a touch of magical realism in your reading world.

I received a copy of A Cup of Silver Linings from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

The Book Charmer

Release Day! No More Words by Kerry Lonsdale ~ My Thoughts #NoMoreWords #NetGalley

 Happy Release Day!

No More Words

No More Words by Kerry Lonsdale
Series: No More #1
Women's Psychological Fiction, 327 pages
Published July 6th 2021 by Lake Union Publishing

From the Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author comes the first book in a trilogy about love, betrayal, and the secrets families keep.

Forced to choose between abortion or adoption, Olivia Carson’s younger sister, Lily, runs away from home. Sixteen and pregnant, she never returns. But she writes. Once a year, Lily mails a picture of her son, Josh, to Olivia until his thirteenth year. Then it’s Josh himself who arrives at Olivia’s house, alone, terrified, and in possession of a notarized declaration from Lily. It begins, “In the event I go missing…”

Josh has difficulty talking. He can’t read or write, but he’s a prolific artist, exhibiting skill beyond his age. His drawings are as detailed as they are horrific. Olivia soon realizes Josh’s artwork tells a story. There’s more to his arrival and to Lily’s untimely disappearance than it seems. Using the drawings as a road map, Olivia traces Josh’s path back to his mom. Each drawing sheds light on Lily’s past and reveals a darkness that forces Olivia to question everything she thought she knew about her family.

My thoughts about No More Words ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Summer of '95—Charlotte and Dwight Carson unloaded their three children at the Whitmans' lakeside cabin like a courier with a cardboard package."

I love Kerry's stories and am always excited when she has a new book out. No More Words is the first book in her amazing new trilogy. Her stories are always full of caring, interesting people with just the right amount of unexpected twists. There's never a dull moment in one of Kerry's stories, that's for sure.

No More Words starts out innocently enough, with Oliva and her siblings staying at a friend's cabin for the summer, something they did every year... until they didn't. Years later, when Olivia's nephew shows up on her doorstep all by himself, her life changes as she starts the search for her long lost sister.

I loved everything about this story and found myself racing through the pages, loving the drama and suspense as well as the complicated, satisfying relationships. Kerry's characters are always so likeable and down-to-earth, just like good friends would be.

I'm not sure where the next story, No More Lies, is going to take us but I'm excited to find out. The hard part is that we have to wait until next summer for the next book in the series. But that's okay, I know it'll be worth the wait!

I highly recommend No More Words for an exciting summer read!

I received a copy of No More Words from the author and publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Coming May 2022!
