Release Day! The Guest by B.A. Paris ~ My Thoughts #TheGuest @baparisauthor @StMartinsPress

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations B.A.
on the release today of
The Guest!

The Guest by B.A. Paris
Thriller, Mystery, 320 pages
Published February 20, 2024 by St. Martin's Press

New York Times bestselling author B. A. Paris captivated psychological thriller readers everywhere with Behind Closed Doors. Now she invites you into another heart-pounding home full of secrets, in The Guest.

Some secrets never leave.

Iris and Gabriel seem to have it all: a beautiful home in the British countryside, a daughter happily working in Greece, and good friends Laure and Pierre from Paris, who they often vacation with. But when a young man has a tragic accident in a nearby quarry, Gabriel is the one to find him and hear his final words, leaving Gabriel with a guilty burden.

As Iris tries to help ease her husband’s trauma, they acquire an unexpected house guest. Laure has seemingly moved in after her husband’s revelation that he has had a child with another woman. Iris and Gabriel insist Laure stay as long as she needs. But Laure keeps wearing Iris’s clothes, following her every move, and asking her about the recent death of the young man.

Their only respite from the increasingly tense atmosphere in their own home comes from a couple new to town and expecting their first child. But with them comes their gardener, who has a checkered past.

With fractured relationships and secrets piling up around them, can Iris and Gabriel’s marriage survive?

My thoughts about The Guest ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"Gabriel, his fingers shaking slightly on the stem. handed Iris a glass of champagne, and then gave one to Esme."

Twists and turns. Lies and deceit. Murder and mayhem. Secrets, lots of secrets. Yep, this story has it all! And more.

I've read all of Ms. Paris's books and have loved them all. This one did not disappoint and rates right up there with all of the rest of her stories. I inhaled it and had no idea how it was going to end. I had the 'disturbed' person wrong over and over. First I thought it had to be this one, and then no, I changed my mind. It had to be this other person. I was kept guessing until the end. And I loved it!

The Guest is a book that you will need to devote some time to because once you start it, you will not want to stop reading. Keep that in mind. I highly recommend this one!

I received a copy of The Guest from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! The Prisoner by B.A. Paris ~ My Thoughts #ThePrisoner @baparisauthor @StMartinsPress

Happy Release Day!

Congrats B. A.
on the release today of
The Prisoner!

The Prisoner by B.A. Paris
Psychological Thriller, 288 pages
Published November 1, 2022 by St. Martin's Press

With Behind Closed Doors, New York Times bestselling author B. A. Paris took the psychological thriller to shocking new heights. Now she’ll hold you captive with The Prisoner—a stunning new thriller about one woman wed into a family with deadly intentions.

Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a life for herself, she is swept up into a glamorous lifestyle where she married the handsome billionaire Ned Hawthorne.

But then, Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband Ned?

In the vein of Behind Closed Doors and The Therapist, multimillion-copy bestseller B. A. Paris is back with a gripping new suspense novel.

My thoughts about The Prisoner ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"I sense the shift of air beneath my nose a millisecond before something—thick, sticky tape—is clamped over my mouth, silencing the scream that would have ripped from me."

B.A. Paris has done it again! Her words grabbed me from the very first line, and held me captive until the very last page. I am continually amazed at the suspense and drama she can create.

Amelie wakes up and finds herself in a completely dark room with only a mattress. She can't see a thing and doesn't understand why she is in that situation. I would be totally freaked out. She stays calm, cool, and collected and plans her escape. But hold up, it's not going to be that easy!

I felt the intensity and fear right along with her and couldn't wait for her to escape her prison. But she quickly realizes that she might be safer in her dark, little room than out in the big, cold world. So intense!!

If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, I highly recommend The Prisoner. It will keep you on the edge of your seat to the end. And if you are a fan of the author, this story will not disappoint. It is amazing!

I received a copy of The Prisoner from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! The Therapist by B.A. Paris ~ My Thoughts #TheTherapist #NetGalley

  Happy Release Day!

The Therapist

The Therapist by B.A. Paris
Domestic Thiller, 320 pages
Published July 13th 2021 by St. Martin's Press

The multimillion-copy New York Times bestselling author B.A. Paris returns to her heartland of gripping psychological suspense in The Therapist--a powerful tale of a house that holds a shocking secret.

When Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in The Circle, a gated community of exclusive houses, it is everything they’ve dreamed of. But appearances can be deceptive…

As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before.

Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before. But no one wants to talk about it. Her neighbors are keeping secrets and things are not as perfect as they seem…

My thoughts about The Therapist ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"My office is small, perfect and minimalistic. It's decorated in calming shades of gray, with just two chairs; a cocoon-style gray one for my clients and a pale leather one for me."

BA Paris has done it again. She has created an edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep you guessing and enthralled until the very end. As with her other books, The Therapist grabbed me from the very first chapter and kept me in it's clutches until the very last page. I am never disappointed in her stories.

This is a book full of relationships, most of them strained and troubled. Alice has to work hard to try to find the good ones and to try to figure out who she can trust—who is on her side and who isn't? And then there are all the secrets. What aren't her neighbors telling her?

I totally loved the mystery, suspense, and secrets of this story. The Therapist is a spell-binding thriller that I know you will love as well.

I received a copy of The Therapist from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! The Dilemma by B. A. Paris ~ My Thoughts #TheDilemma #NetGalley

Congrats B. A.
on the release today of
The Dilemma!

The Dilemma by B. A. Paris
Print and e-book, 304 pages
Published June 30th 2020 by St. Martin's Press

A woman's birthday party takes a dark turn in a poignant, heart-stopping new novel from the reigning queen of suspense, NYT and USA Today bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors.

Livia is finally having the birthday party she always dreamed of. When she and her husband Adam fell pregnant as teenagers, she was disowned by her parents. Their marriage has had its ups and downs, but now, twenty years on, they are blissfully happy now with their two grown-up children, Josh and Marnie. And tonight, Adam is throwing Livia the party of a lifetime, to make up for the fairytale wedding they could never have.

Marnie has been studying abroad and can’t make it to the party. Livia can’t help but be slightly grateful for this, as she’s recently uncovered a secret about their daughter which, if revealed, will shake the foundation of their family to its core. For just one night, Livia wants everything to be perfect.

Adam, meanwhile, has set up another surprise for his wife: Marnie will be secretly flying back for the family celebration. But soon it emerges that Adam is faced with a dilemma of his own, and he too may have to keep a terrible secret. After all, if you could give the person you love the most in the world a few more hours of happiness, you would . . . wouldn’t you? As the day of the party dawns, one thing is clear: Marnie’s arrival could shatter everything.

My thoughts about The Dilemma ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"It's the cooling bathwater that wakes me."

Once again, here is another book full of secrets. That seems to be a theme in a lot of books lately, at least in ones that I have been lucky enough to read. And secrets can definitely keep a book interesting, that's for sure.

The Dilemma has secrets, but these secrets are being kept for good reasons—not to hide bad things from the past, but to keep loved ones from being hurt. As the 'perfect' birthday party approaches—the party of a lifetime—we see how the stress of keeping these secrets impact the main characters. What a roller-coaster ride of emotions this author put me through.

While The Dilemma had a different feel to it for me from B.A's other thrillers—it didn't feel quite as intense—it was still an exciting and enjoyable read. And as always, I look forward to the next book by B. A. Paris.

I received a copy of The Dilemma via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Bring Me Back

Bring Me Back by B.A. Paris
Print and e-book, 336 pages
Published  June 19th 2018 by St. Martin's Press

Finn and Layla are young, in love, and on vacation. They’re driving along the highway when Finn decides to stop at a service station to use the restroom. He hops out of the car, locks the doors behind him, and goes inside. When he returns Layla is gone—never to be seen again. That is the story Finn told to the police. But it is not the whole story.

Ten years later Finn is engaged to Layla’s sister, Ellen. Their shared grief over what happened to Layla drew them close and now they intend to remain together. Still, there’s something about Ellen that Finn has never fully understood. His heart wants to believe that she is the one for him...even though a sixth sense tells him not to trust her.

Then, not long before he and Ellen are to be married, Finn gets a phone call. Someone from his past has seen Layla—hiding in plain sight. There are other odd occurrences: Long-lost items from Layla’s past that keep turning up around Finn and Ellen’s house. Emails from strangers who seem to know too much. Secret messages, clues, warnings. If Layla is alive—and on Finn’s trail—what does she want? And how much does she know?

A tour de force of psychological suspense, Bring Me Back will have you questioning everything and everyone until its stunning climax.

My thoughts about Bring Me Back ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"We were on our way back from skiing in Megève. I decided to stop in Paris on the way up as a surprise for Layla, because she had never been there before."

I don't know how this author does it, book after book, but Bring Me Back is another unbelievable, psychological thriller that made me dizzy with all the twists and turns in the story. I was guessing and then second-guessing myself, thinking I had it all figured out. And then when the end came, I was totally wrong on my guesses. I love when that happens. What an amazing story!

I received an ARC of Bring Me Back from St. Martin's Press in exchange for my honest review.

Happy Release Day!!

The Breakdown

The Breakdown by B.A. Paris
Print and ebook, 336 pages
Published: July 18th 2017 by St. Martin's Press

THE NEW CHILLING, PROPULSIVE NOVEL FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.

If you can’t trust yourself, who can you trust?

Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside—the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she’d stopped.

But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn’t have a baby.

The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.

Or the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her…

My thoughts about The Breakdown ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"The thunder starts as we're saying goodbye, leaving each other for the summer holidays ahead. A loud crack! echoes off the ground, making Connie jump. John laughs, the hot air dense around us."

The storm at the very first of the book gives this story an ominous beginning. And then the suspense just builds from there. The Breakdown had me questioning everything that was happening to Cass. Could she have prevented that woman's murder? Why was she forgetting things? Who was calling her all the time, creeping her out? Who was out to get her?

The suspense and drama kept me turning pages. Things are not always what they seem and then the ending. Love those surprise endings! This story was totally riveting and I inhaled it in record time!

I received a copy of The Breakdown in exchange for my honest opinion.

My thoughts about Behind Closed Doors ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—'The champagne bottle knocks against the marble kitchen counter, making me jump. I glance at Jack, hoping he won't have noticed how nervous I am, He catches me looking and smiles.'

Wow! Just wow! I don't remember reading a book that was so intense with a character that I hated so much. Jack is such a despicable character and what he puts Grace through is deplorable.

This story grabbed me from the very first chapter and I could not put it down. The action just kept on coming and coming. I felt like I couldn't leave Grace, oh my gosh, what she had to go through, at the hands of that evil, evil man.

This is the author's first novel and what an amazing debut. It is a must read and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!

I received a copy of this book from St. Martin's Press and am voluntarily reviewing it.
