When I Kill You by B.A. Paris ~ My Thoughts #WhenIKillYou

When I Kill You by B.A. Paris
Thriller, Mystery, 304 pages
Published February 17, 2026 by St. Martin's Press

Who is watching Nell Masters?

Nell Masters is certain someone is following her. The hairs on the back of her neck rise when she travels to and from work, there are silent calls to her office, and a huge bouquet of flowers arrives without a card. And Nell has a reason to be looking over her shoulder, because she has a secret that she’s hiding from everyone in her life, including her new partner, Alex. But Alex also has secrets of his own.

Fourteen years earlier, when Nell went by the name Elle Nugent, she witnessed a student, Bryony Sanders, getting into a stranger’s car. When Bryony was found murdered, Elle became obsessed with finding the person responsible. She was convinced she knew who it was and her fixation with Brett Parker, the man she accused, led her down a dangerous path . . .

Now, Nell tries to convince herself that this unnerving feeling of being watched is all in her mind. Has someone from her past discovered her new identity? Has the stalker become the stalked? Or is there something even more deadly at play?

My thoughts about When I Kill You ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"It's the lamp going out in the living room that alerts me the electricity has been cut."

I'm a huge, huge fan of B.A Paris and have read all of her books. No one writes a thriller like she does! When I Kill You did not disappoint. What a roller coaster ride.

Nell Masters has secrets and is hiding from her past but does someone know about her past? And is someone stalking her? This is a suspenseful look into the world of secrets and drama.

Once again, B.A Paris has created a story that kept me on the edge of my seat, one that I couldn't read fast enough, but one that I didn't want to end. I love when an author can do that.

I highly recommend When I Kill You if you are a thriller lover like I am.

I received aa ARC of When I Kill You and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! Mother Daughter Sister Stranger by Hank Phillippi Ryan ~ My Thoughts #MotherDaughterSisterStranger

Happy Release Day!

Congrats Hank
on the release today of
Mother Daughter Sister Stranger!

Mother Daughter Sister Stranger by Hank Phillippi Ryan
Mystery,  Psychological Thriller, 352 pages
Published September 1, 2026 by Minotaur Books

Every family has its story. This one’s deadly.

Eliza Ramsey and her sister Bea are the sole survivors of the fiery plane crash that killed their parents—and share a bond they vow is unbreakable. But now, eleven years later, on the exact anniversary of the tragedy, Bea fails to retrieve her pre-teen daughter from a sleepover at Eliza’s. Eliza knows her sister would never leave her precious Piper behind—even in her care—and fears the worst.

Piper is confused at her mother’s absence. Her father, Bea's recent ex, is out of town and uninterested in Bea’s whereabouts. Police are dismissive. But Eliza is terrified. Especially as it becomes clear that Bea might have planned her own disappearance.

The Ramsey’s lives have already crashed and burned once—and now, Eliza discovers she must protect her niece from the horrifying truth about her family’s sinister history—and together, they must prevent their lives from going up in in flames once again.

A missing influencer. Her frightened daughter. And a sister on a desperate search for a happy ending. But someone knows the deadly key to their shared past—and now won’t stop until they’ve written a terrifying final chapter. Mother, daughter, sister—stranger.

My thoughts about Mother Daughter Sister Stranger ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"I remember the falling. Only the falling."

I always know when I start a story by Hank Phillippi Ryan that it is going to be a good one, one that will keep me guessing until the end and make me want more. Mother Daughter Sister Stranger did that for me. I went round and round trying to figure out whodunnit and not getting it right. And this whole story takes place for Eliza and Piper in a matter of only three days. And what a dramatic, suspenseful three days they were.

There is so much going on in this story and I found myself bouncing around, wondering -- is this person a friend or a foe, should they trust this person or not. So much to think about and consider.

Mother Daughter Sister Stranger will take you on an exciting ride, one you will not soon forget. I highly recommend it!

I received an eARC of Mother Daughter Sister Stranger and this is my honest opinion.

New Release! The Women in White by Sarah Pekkanen ~ My Thoughts #TheWomenInWhite

Congratulation Sarah
on the recent release of
The Women in White!

The Women in White by Sarah Pekkanen
Mystery Thriller, Historical Fiction, 320 pages
Published August 4, 2026 by St. Martin's Press

The newest next thriller from #1 Bestselling Author Sarah Pekkanen combines a decades-old mystery with spine-tingling paranormal elements in this twisty novel of the seen and unseen.

Extrasensory perception.
The Gift.
A Sixth Sense.
Or something else….

In 1964, four remarkable young women at a prestigious university became the subjects of parapsychology experiments by a visionary scientist. On the cusp of a historic breakthrough, the women mysteriously vanished and the program was erased from history.

Decades later, Riley Bell, newly divorced and desperate for a fresh start, accepts a caretaker job for an elderly widow named Betty. Riley steps into a home that is frozen in another era - no microwave, television, or cell phones, and Betty has never heard of the internet. Why has Betty lived in such profound isolation for so many years, and why does she need Riley now?

As the story unfolds across two timelines - Betty’s 1960s era of 5 o’clock martinis and high-stakes experiments, and Riley’s quest to uncover the truth about the missing women - old secrets rise to the surface. And the only way to survive is to confront the mystery that has lingered for sixty years.

My thoughts about The Women in White ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"Riley, Present Day. Just before I knock on the door of the small brick house, I'm gripped by the skin-tingling sense I'm being watched."

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. Sarah Pekkanen is a must-read author for me so I knew I'd be in for an exciting ride when I read this one. And it did not disappoint.

The Women in White takes place in dual timelines, the present and the mid-sixties. Riley answers an ad for a live-in position, assisting an elderly woman. What she didn't expect was a journey to help Betty find her friends from the past, when they were all the 'women in white'.

Betty and three other women were part of parapsychology experiments performed in the 1960's. These women formed a deep bond with each other, until they disappeared from each other's lives. Riley embarks on a quest to reunite these women. Through the flashbacks, the reader relives the lives of these women and what they endured.

One thing that struck me the most was that experiments of these type actually did take place during that time. It was a bit shocking to me to know what these women and others went through, all in the name of science.

I loved The Women in White and I highly recommend it!

I received an eARC of The Women in White and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! I Know You Killed Your Husband by Steena Holmes ~ My Thoughts #IKnowYouKilledYourHusband #NetGalley

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Steena
on the release today of
I Know You Killed Your Husband!

I Know You Killed Your Husband by Steena Holmes
Psychological Fiction, 320 pages
Published May 21, 2026 by Bookouture

As we toast our champagne, Lyndy leans over and whispers six little words that change everything: ‘I know you killed your husband.’

James and I were the perfect couple. He swept me off my feet, and after years of marriage, we still seemed totally in love. Then his sudden death destroyed everything. This girls’ trip to Paris with my best friends is my first chance to try and start again.

But at Lyndy’s words, my heart races in my chest. The police said my husband’s death was accidental. If Lyndy thinks I killed him… what else does she know?

I can’t believe my best friend would turn on me. After everything we’ve been through. Everything we covered up for her…

But the next morning, Lyndy is found dead in the hotel pool. And the letter shoved under the door to my suite makes my blood run

Now you’re free, liar.

My thoughts about I Know You Killed Your Husband ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"PARIS, FRANCE -- I have been waiting 25 years for this."

Revenge. Could you wait 25 years for revenge? That's a lot to hold in for so many years. A girls' trip to beautiful Paris, of all places, turns into an experience that no one was expecting. A dead friend, unexplained notes randomly appearing, and another friend, who was uninvited to this trip, showing unexpectedly. Those are all elements for a mysterious and stressful vacation.

I have read a lot of Steena Holmes' books and she is a master of intriguing thrillers. I Know You Killed Your Husband is going to be another hit for her. It has everything you could want and is a total page-turner. I loved every minute of it and couldn't wait to see how it all ended and how she wrapped everything up.

Loved it and highly recommend it!

Release Day! Leave It Up To Love by Kristy Woodson Harvey ~ My Thoughts #LeaveItUpToLove @kristywharvey

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Kristy
on the release today of
Leave It Up to Love!

Leave It Up To Love by Kristy Woodson Harvey
Romance, Short Story, 58 pages
Published March 1, 2026 by Amazon Original Stories

From New York Times bestselling author Kristy Woodson Harvey comes a funny, feel-good tale—a seaside romp about chasing dreams, losing illusions, and writing your own story.

Ready for her big break after publishing her first novel, Lila Everwood has two fresh book ideas and dreams of quitting her barista job. She’s hopeful about her future—until her writing catches her literary idol’s attention in all the wrong ways.

Elizabeth Lancaster, the queen of regency romance, hasn’t written a word in three years. Her publisher’s solution? A ghostwriter. Specifically, her favorite coffee server. It’s either brilliance or madness—and her literary agent son Grady thinks it’s definitely the latter.

As the ideas begin to fly, so do the sparks—between Lila and Grady. And, as Lila’s and Elizabeth’s worlds collide, the two writers must lean on each other, learning something vital in the In life, love, and publishing, sometimes you have to write your own happy ending.

My thoughts about Leave It Up To Love ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"My favorite part about being an author was days like today, when I was walking down a Sea Oat Shores, North Carolina, street to meet with my editor."

I love everything that Kristy Woodson Harvey writes and Leave it Up to Love did not disappoint.

This short story was just what I needed to take a break for my typical reading material. It was light and fun, everything a rom-com should be. The idea of a ghostwriter for an established author is probably more common than I am aware of but this was an interesting look at what that might entail. The characters were real and entertaining.

I read the e-book as well as listened to the audio-book. The narrators did an amazing job and had the characters come to life for me. Highly recommend this fun short story from one of my favorite, must-read authors!

I received an audio ARC of Leave It Up To Love and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! Keeper of Lost Children by Sadeqa Johnson ~ My Thoughts #KeeperOfLostChildren

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Sadeqa
on the release today of
Keeper of Lost Children!

Keeper of Lost Children by Sadeqa Johnson
Historical Fiction, World War II, 464 pages
Published February 10, 2026 by 37 Ink

In this new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The House of Eve, one American woman’s vision in post WWII Germany will tie together three people in an unexpected way.

Lost in the streets and smoldering rubble of Occupied Germany, Ethel Gathers, the proud wife of an American soldier spots a gaggle of mixed-race children following a nun. Desperate to conceive her own family, she feels compelled to follow them to learn their story.

Ozzie Philips volunteers for the army in 1948, eager to break barriers for Black soldiers. Despite his best efforts, he finds the racism he encountered at home in Philadelphia has followed him overseas. He finds solace in the arms of Jelka, a German woman struggling with the lack of resources and even joy in her destroyed country.

In 1965, Sophia Clark discovers she’s been given an opportunity to integrate a prestigious boarding school in Maryland and leave behind her spiteful parents and the grueling demands. In a chance meeting with a fellow classmate, she discovers a secret that upends her world.

Toggling between the lives of these three individuals, Keeper of Lost Children explores how one woman’s vision will change the course of countless lives, and demonstrates that love in its myriad of forms—familial, parental, and forbidden, even love of self—can be transcendent.

My thoughts about Keeper of Lost Children~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"A hand pounded against the front door. Started from her morning prayers, Sister Proba clutched the cross hanging around her neck, hoping it was just the wind."

Keeper of Lost Children is an amazing story featuring three characters who, unbeknownst to all of them, are connected in the most unexpected way. As the reader learns about each of them in turn, we learn about the hardships they all endured as well as the joys that were a part of their lives. It was beautiful to watch how one's actions had such an impact on the lives of the others.

The writing of Sadeqa Johnson is extraordinary and it made me feel like I was personally involved in the lives of these three people. Her words just flew off of the page and into my imagination.

I love historical fiction because of the things I learn about a time or event in the past that I knew little or nothing about. I wasn't aware of the mixed-race children that were born during the war. This story opened up that world to me and made me want to learn more about it on my own.

This story gives us a little bit different spin on the war, one that is not talked about often. It shows how the unselfish actions of one person can greatly influence the lives of others. I highly recommend Keeper of Lost Children for all readers of historical fiction.

I received an ARC of Keeper of Lost Children and this is my honest opinion.

The Locked Ward by Sarah Pekkanen ~ My Thoughts #TheLockedWard

Congratulation Sarah
on the release of
The Locked Ward!

The Locked Ward by Sarah Pekkanen
Women's Psychological Fiction, 320 pages
Published August 5, 2025 by St. Martin's Press

Was it...
Bitter, all-consuming jealousy?
Pathological sibling rivalry?
Pure insanity?

Whatever the cause—and everyone has a theory—it's the Crime of the Decade when glamorous Georgia Cartwright, who was adopted as a newborn, is accused of killing the biological daughter of her wealthy, Southern family.

Georgia is locked in a psychiatric institution where the most violent offenders are held while she awaits trial. The only words she whispers when her estranged twin sister Amanda visits are, “I didn’t do it. You’ve got to get me out of here.”

Amanda doesn't trust Georgia, but she can't abandon her in a place so eerie and menacing that it seems to exist in another dimension. Is Georgia the victim of a powerful family that's so depraved murder is the least of their crimes? Or is Amanda being led down a path of madness into the web of a master manipulator?

Nothing is as it seems in Sarah Pekkanen’s The Locked Ward, a shocking psychological thriller about the complex bonds of sisterhood—and what happens when they are stretched to the breaking point.

My thoughts about The Locked Ward ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"You awaken slowly, struggling to surface, like you're swimming up through mud."

I'm a big fan of Sarah Pekkanen's books and am always excited for another one of her thrillers. This one did not disappoint.

Sisterhood is not an easy thing to navigate, but what about having a sister that you can't trust and may have done evil things? This story had me doubting everything I read and felt. What is truth and what is not?

The Locked Ward is a suspenseful, twisty thriller that will keep you guessing and scratching your head until the very end. Highly recommend it!

I received an eARC of The Locked Ward and this is my honest opinion.

Coming soon! Moonleapers by Margaret Peterson Haddix ~ My Thoughts #Moonleapers @MPHaddix @QuillTreeBooks

Congrats Margaret
on the upcoming release of
Moonleapers!

Moonleapers by Margaret Peterson Haddix
(Book 1: Moonleapers)
Middle Grade, Time Travel, 320 pages
Expected publication September 16, 2025 by Quill Tree Books

From New York Times bestselling author Margaret Peterson Haddix comes a suspenseful duology opener about a girl whose first phone connects her to a network of time travelers who want to change the world. Perfect for fans of The Mysterious Benedict Society and City Spies!

When Maisie’s mom gives her an old phone, Maisie can’t believe her luck—finally, she can keep up with everyone at school! Unfortunately, her mom also tells her that the whole family will be moving to spend the summer taking care of Maisie’s great-aunt Hazel. Maisie’s only getting a phone because she’ll be responsible for her younger siblings during the entire trip. With that, Maisie is ready to give the phone back.

Then the first puzzling text comes in.

Between the mystery texts and a not-completely-blank book from Great-Aunt Hazel, Maisie finds herself thrown into the world of moonleapers. Will she be able to learn more about the secretive group, and—gulp—help them accomplish their crucial mission in time?

My thoughts about Moonleapers ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"'Maisie? Is that you?' Mom's voice floated down from her second-floor office as soon as Maisie pushed open the front door."

Margaret Peterson Haddix is a new-to-me author and honestly, this is not the usual genre or age group of books that I typically read. But when it was offered to me, something intrigued me about this story. Of course I love stories about time travel so there is that aspect that drew me in. And the cover is beautiful and alluring.

I was immediately captivated by Maisie and all that she had going on. This is a very well written story with plenty of mystery and intrigue to keep readers interested. This is the perfect duology for young readers with blossoming imaginations. It will open a whole world for them to enjoy.

Like I said before, Margaret is a new author for me and when I look at the list of books that she has already written, I feel like I missed out by not discovering her when I was a middle grade reader. It's never too late to enjoy good stories, though, is it? I'll have to check out some of her other books and I will definitely be watching for more of Maisie's stories.

I received an ARC of Moonleapers and this is my honest opinion.
