This OR That Giveaway № 155 ~ It's a Big One!

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to cull my collection and to share some of the many books I have. I get to clear off some of my shelves to make room for more books and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

I really don't like the news I am sharing today.

This will be my last This OR That Giveaway post.
I know, I hate it too.
😢

The USPS office has raised their media mail rates AGAIN in 2024. They raised them in January 2024 and just announced that they are going up again in July. While I love sharing my books with all of you, and I appreciate all of the support you have shown me 😘, I just can't justify the cost of sending out these books anymore. Hubs and I are both retired and this cost is eating away at our income. I may post again in the future, maybe when I have a build up of ARCs to get rid of. We'll see. I hope you stick around.

In the meantime, I have my books listed for sale on PangoBooks (for really cheap, I think) (make me an offer if you see some you want, I'll work with you, just email me) and PaperBackSwap. Check out my books there!

This week, I am once again posting my Goodreads Giveaway Shelf so that winners can pick from the list of all of my previous offers. I will pick 5 names so we can end this event on a high note!

Thanks again for your continued support of my giveaways and thanks for visiting my page. I hope you stick around for my other content too.

Click the link to check out my Goodreads shelf so you can see what books are available. Some books may drop off before I select the winners, if they become unavailable.

Remember Me
by Laura Hendrie
Hardcover ~ January 1999

Readers who enjoy the novels of writers such as Barbara Kingsolver and E. Annie Proulx will love Laura Hendrie, whose prizewinning story collection, Stygo, launched her literary career in 1994. Now, Hendrie has delivered a major novel featuring the wily and tenacious twenty-nine-year-old Rose Devonic, a character as memorable, unorthodox, and engaging as any in recent fiction.

Rose lives in the tiny mountain town of Queduro, New Mexico, where she--like almost all the inhabitants of the town--makes her living by selling embroidery. However, Rose has no home and no family. In winter she sleeps in one of the cold cabins in a mostly abandoned motel, in summer she lives out of her car. A tragedy in her past, which serves as a constant reminder to her neighbors of their complicity, has made her an outcast.

Determined as she is to make a fresh start, Rose's past threatens constantly to engulf her. Only by facing down her ghosts - and her hometown - will she learn how to accept the ultimately liberating challenges of belonging, identity, and love.

Molten Death
Leslie Karst
ARC ~ Published April 2024

The first Orchid Isle cozy mystery, set in tropical Hilo, Hawai'i, introduces a fun and feisty LGBTQ+ couple who swap surfing lessons for sleuthing sessions!

A glimpse of a quickly melting corpse at the foot of a volcano has amateur sleuth and food enthusiast Valerie Corbin shocked. But how can she investigate a murder, when there's no evidence the victim ever existed?

Retired caterer Valerie Corbin and her wife Kristen have come to the Big Island of Hawai'i to treat themselves to a well-earned tropical vacation. After the recent loss of her brother, Valerie is in sore need of a distraction from her troubles and is looking forward to enjoying the delicious food and vibrant culture the state has to offer.

Early one morning, the couple and their friend - tattooed local boy, Isaac - set out to see an active lava flow, and Valerie is mesmerized by the shape-shifting mass of orange and red creeping over the field of black rock. Spying a boot in the distance, she strides off alone, pondering how it could have gotten there, only to realize to her horror that the boot is still attached to a leg - a leg which is slowly being engulfed by the hot lava.

Valerie's convinced a murder has been committed - but as she's the only witness to the now-vanished corpse, who's going to believe her?

Determined to prove what she saw, and get justice for the unknown victim, Valerie launches her own investigation. But, thrown into a Hawaiian culture far from the luaus and tiki bars of glossy tourist magazines, she soon begins to fear she may be the next one to end up entombed in shiny black rock.

The amiable characters, stunning backdrop and culinary delights make this the perfect cozy of fans who enjoy a tropical vacation with a twisty murder mystery and compelling Hawai'ian culture - paired with an added bonus of recipes of local Hawai'ian dishes!

The Girl with Three Birthdays: An Adopted Daughter’s Memoir of Tiaras, Tough Truths, and Tall Tales
by Patti Eddington
ARC - Published May 2024

Patti Eddington always knew she was adopted, and her beloved parents seemed amenable enough to questions—but she never wanted to hurt them by expressing curiosity, so she didn’t. The story of her mother cutting off and dying her hair when she was a toddler? She thought it was eccentric and funny, nothing more. When she discovered at fifteen that her birthday wasn’t actually her birthday? She believed it when her mother said she’d changed it to protect her from the “nosy old biddies” who might try to discover her identity.

It wasn’t until decades later, when a genealogy test led Patti to her biological family (including an aunt with a shocking story) and the discovery of yet another birthday, that she really began to integrate what she thought she knew about her origins. Determined to know the truth, she finally petitioned a court to unseal records that had been locked up for almost sixty years—and began to put the pieces of her past together, bit by painstaking bit.

Framed by a brief but poignant 1963 “Report of Investigation” based on a caseworker’s one-day visit to Patti’s childhood home, The Girl With Three Birthdays tells the story of an adoptee who always believed she was the answer to a couple’s seventeen-year journey to become parents, until a manila envelope from a rural county court arrived and caused her to question . . . everything.
