Sadie Hoffmiller has always liked things to be just so. A place for everything and everything in its place. Order over chaos. And of all things Sadie should be able to control, her own wedding is at the top of the list.

With the big day just three weeks away, Sadie is busily adding the final touches to her wedding plans but the arrival of a mysterious letter from San Francisco changes everything. The only person Sadie knows in San Francisco is her older sister, Wendy, whom she hasn't seen since their mother’s funeral nearly fifteen years ago.

Sadie has faced off against murderers and criminals in recent years, yet the possibility of reconnecting with her sister is both overwhelming and frightening. Sadie soon discovers, however, that the letter is just the beginning when Wendy’s world turns out to be a place of unanswered questions, twisted truths, and more than one person with a motive for murder.

The more Sadie digs into her sister’s past, the more she places her own future at risk.

My thoughts about Fortune Cookie ~~

I love Sadie! She is such a normal, down to earth, real, type of person. I could see myself being her friend and I love being a part of her life, even though it's only when I enter her story world. She just tries to go along minding her own business but then she ends up getting involved in other people's lives. She can't help it, she just cares that much.
"She'd faced off with murderers and psychopaths during the last few years, but her sister could send her into a panic with just a simple letter Sadie hadn't even read yet.'
Fortune Cookie takes place mainly in San Francisco, a place I would love to visit someday. It was wonderful traveling around the city with Sadie and her fiance, Peter. The two of them travel to SF to take care of some business involving her estranged sister and her family. And guess what? It just might involve murder! They also enjoyed some wonderful food while they were in the city and as an added bonus, recipes are included in all of the books of the series. Yummy!

I love this section of the story where Sadie rationalizes her coffee order while she's out with her size four friend. We've all been there, haven't we?
'Leann stepped up to the counter and ordered a nonfat cafe latte. No wonder she was a size four. Sadie wondered if a nonfat cafe latte had any flavor at all; she preferred flavor to skinny jeans.
Sadie ordered a vanilla steamer with two percent milk instead of the whole milk she'd have preferred and patted herself on the back for not ordering a chocolate croissant to go with it.'
This is only the third book in this series of eleven books that I have read but I never felt like I didn't know what was going on in Sadie's world. Kudos to the author for being able to write a series that can also be read as standalones.

On the author's website, she notes that there will be one more book in the series and then a cookbook featuring Sadie's recipes. I am sad the series will be over but I have plenty of stories to go back to and read. Who knows, maybe this time I'll read them in order, book one to book twelve.

And aren't these covers just scrumptious??
