Release Day! The Lost Ballerina by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts #TheLostBallerina @DeannaLSletten

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Deanna
on the release today of
The Lost Ballerina!

The Lost Ballerina by Deanna Lynn Sletten
Women's Sagas, 229 pages
Published January 13, 2026 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

Two generations. Two dreams. One story powerful enough to change a life.

1963—Evalina Ashford has spent her life reaching for her dream. Raised with little more than determination and a passion for dance, she has fought her way into the revered halls of the New York City Ballet under the watchful eye of the great choreographer, George Balanchine. Just as her long-held dream is finally within reach, a devastating betrayal from someone she loves threatens to shatter everything—her future, her trust, and the very identity she has built through years of sacrifice.

Today—Seventeen-year-old Madison Carlson is having the kind of summer she’d rather forget. With her car wrecked by her boyfriend and her parents urging her toward a “sensible” career path, she’s stuck mowing lawns to earn repair money and questioning every choice she’s made. When Maddie reluctantly knocks on the door of the old house the neighborhood kids whisper about, she expects to be turned away. Instead, she meets two elderly ladies with a past that glimmers with secrets and heartache—and one woman whose extraordinary story inspires Maddie to reclaim herself, her dreams, and her future.

Across decades, the lives of a rising ballerina and a struggling teenager intertwine, revealing how courage, mentorship, and the stories we share can change everything.

My thoughts about The Lost Ballerina ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"Madison Carlson stood at the end of the long driveaway, staring at the home that all teens in the neighborhood believed was haunted."

I got lost in the storyline of The Lost Ballerina. (See what I did there.) I love dual timelines in stories, where we learn the story behind what is happening in the the present. And no one does dual timelines better than Deanna. I'm a huge fan of her historical novels—you can tell she does the research to write her stories authentically. And then to throw in two related stories takes her stories over the top.

Madison has to step out of her comfort zone to approach the two elderly women who are perceived as witches by the neighborhood kids. What she finds is not at all what she expected and she forges a deep friendship with them. As their past is revealed, Madison discovers so much about them, her family, and herself.

The Lost Ballerina was an eye opening look at the world of ballet for me. I now understand a little bit of what it takes to be the best and and how hard people have to work studying ballet. It was heartwarming to learn about the love and sacrifice that Evalina and her mother went through so that Evalina could live her dream. Life lesson for all of us—live your best life and follow you dreams.

I loved everything about The Lost Ballerina and highly recommend it.

I received an ARC of The Lost Ballerina and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! Mary, Mary by D. L. Sletten ~ My Thoughts #MaryMary @DLSlettenAuthor

Happy Release Day!

Congrats Deanna
on the release today of
Mary, Mary!

Mary, Mary by D. L. Sletten
Women's Fiction, Summer, Contemporary, 368 pages
Published June 3, 2025 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

Mary lives a simple life, so why are people dying around her?

Mary Westin is either seeing things or going insane. Her boring life has been turned upside-down by the murders happening around her. And if she doesn’t find a way to prove her innocence soon, she will spend the rest of her life in prison.

What happens when a plain, everyday woman suddenly becomes a murder suspect? Mary finds out soon enough when her ex-husband is murdered, and then her boss. Then, family secrets are revealed to Mary, complicating her life further. Who is the person imitating her, and who’s sending the creepy messages? And why?

When Detective Ryan Hodges comes on the scene to investigate the murders, Mary is thankful that someone finally believes she’s not a killer. But all the evidence points directly at Mary. The scariest thought of all for Mary is that maybe no one else is following her or committing the murders. Maybe Mary has finally lost her mind.

My thoughts about Mary, Mary~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"She stood at the top of the stirs, waiting for Abby's automatic stairlift chair to make it all the way up. As usual, the older woman was complaining."

Oh wow! What did I just read? I literally devoured this book in one day! I thought I had it all figured out early on, and then there was a twist and my theory was blown out of the water. And then it twisted again. Oh my, it got me!

I am a huge love of thrillers and I love it when an author can make me gasp or make my brain 'blow up' with the twists and drama. Mary, Mary did just that. Like I said, I thought I had it all figured out—until I didn't anymore. And then the ending! I had to stop to take a breath and think about what I just read. I love when that happens.

I highly recommend Mary, Mary, especially if you are a thriller lover. I promise you, you will be thinking about this story long after you've finished it. I will definitely be checking out this author's other books.

I received an ARC of Mary, Mary from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! The Heart of the Matter by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts #TheHeartOfTheMatter @DeannaLSletten

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Deanna
on the release today of
The Heart of the Matter!

The Heart of the Matter by Deanna Lynn Sletten
Women's Saga, 146 pages
Published March 11, 2025 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

There are two sides to every story, but you must be willing to listen.

Marsha Winslow believes she lives a charmed life. She has a loving husband, a successful business they built together, and a beautiful home overlooking the ocean in California. But when a devastating accident occurs only days before their twentieth wedding anniversary, Marsha must face some hard truths. Her life isn’t what she believed, and it’s up to her to face reality and fix the mess it’s become.

Amanda DeCarlo’s life was going along well. She is young, loves her job and the people she works with, and has worked her way up quickly. But the worst thing that could happen after a drunken one-night stand resulted in the best thing in her life. And the man responsible made sure to take care of her and her son—his son. But reality hits her hard when fate changes her life and she’s on the verge of losing everything. And the only person who can help her is the one who refuses to talk to her.

They say you should forgive and forget in order to move on. Marsha is unable to forget what happened to her. And the one person who holds the key to her understanding the truth is the only one who can also help her forgive.

My thoughts about The Heart of the Matter ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"Marsha Winslow sat at her dressing table, applying the finishing touches to her make-up. She studied her face and neck, lightly tracing her fingertips over her pale skin. At forty-five years old, her skin still looked smooth."

As always, when I start a book by Deanna, I know I'm going to be in for a treat. I set aside time to completely immerse myself in the wonderfulness of her stories! The Heart of the Matter did not disappoint.

Marsha's life basically falls apart in seconds and that's when she realizes that the life she had with her husband was all a lie. How could he do this to her? How can she get past his betrayal? And what is going to happen to Amanda and her family now that he is gone?

This is an emotional, heart-wrenching story of two women thrown together as they try to deal with the cards that were dealt to them. Both characters have their redeeming qualities and I was rooting for both of them, hoping there would be a good resolution for them but not sure how it could happen.

Once again, Deanna has created a world with a wonderful setting and memorable characters. She has written an emotional, uplifting story that will stay with me for a long time. I highly recommend The Heart of the Matter.

I received The Heart of the Matter from the author and this is my honest opinion of the book.

Release Day! The Lifestyle by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts #TheLifestyle @DeannaLSletten

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Deanna
on the release today of
The Lifestyle!

The Lifestyle: A Novel by Deanna Lynn Sletten
Women's Saga, 166 pages
Published November 12, 2024 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

Her life was picture perfect…until it wasn’t.

What happens when a twist of fate makes all your dreams come true, and then you watch your life unravel before you?

Eight years ago, Kylie Madison was a new mother with a baby who rarely slept, even at eight months old. Exhausted and feeling isolated as a stay-home mom while her husband, Jordon, worked twelve-hour shifts, she opened up to her few friends on Instagram late one night, asking if there were any other tired moms out there struggling. To her surprise, many women answered her. After that night, she began to share her struggles, successes, and parenting dilemmas, and her following grew as other women feel a connection with her. Before Kylie knew it, she’s become an influencer and companies are willing to pay her to promote their products. Slowly, her life becomes her job and the earnings are amazing. But every silver lining has a dark cloud on the horizon.

Eight years later, Kylie is successful and on the verge of becoming a lifestyle guru with her own television show, but her past sneaks up to threaten to take it all away. Her children hate being a part of their mother’s brand, and her husband is pulling away from her. Then, the girl who once worked for her as a nanny has written a tell-all book about Kylie and her family, exposing secrets about their lifestyle that will ruin her. And there’s nothing Kylie can do to stop her. Or is there?

Be careful what you wish for—it might just come true. And when it does, will you be able to handle it?

My thoughts about The Lifestyle ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"Kylie was so busy making videos that she barely had any time to spend with the kids or Jordan."

The Lifestyle is such a current, and relevant, story right now in this day and age. One innocent little post on social media of a person venting—just getting something off their chest—about how they are feeling, can go viral and totally change that person's life. That's what happened to Kylie, when she posts about how exhausted she was, doing the day-to-day stuff in her life. She had no idea that her life would never be the same, and that includes the good along with the bad.

Kylie becomes a huge influencer who turns that into a very lucrative business. And then something happens that could potentially rock that beautiful life and her wonderful world. Will she be able to survive the drama and fallout? I loved watching Kylie deal with all of that and then come out on the other side of all that drama. This is the perfect story to escape into while also making us think about what we put out there into the world. Do we really want our lives to blow up?

Deanna is one of my favorite must-read authors and I love the versatility in her writing. I am never disappointed in her stories. I never know what to expect when she has a new book coming out and I love that she can take me into so many different genres.

This is the perfect story for right now with it's relevancy to social media and the world we live in today. I highly recommend The Lifestyle. Check it out!

I received The Lifestyle from the author and this is my honest opinion of the book.

Release Day! The Last Lady of the Silver Screen by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts #TheLastLadyOfTheSilverScreen @DeannaLSletten

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Deanna
on the release today of
The Last Lady of the Silver Screen!

The Last Lady of the Silver Screen by Deanna Lynn Sletten
Historical Fiction, 261 pages
Published May 28, 2024 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

The streets of old Hollywood are paved with glitter and gold, secrets and lies. What’s real, and what’s imagined? Only those who lived it know the truth.

1934 – Young Kathleen Carver dreams of becoming a movie star despite her father’s warnings that she wouldn't want that life. As she grows, she becomes more determined and her strong personality and independent soul won’t let her give up. After college, she stays out east and works in the theater. Then her big break comes—Hollywood is calling—and she goes home to California to become the star she always knew she’d be. But there are bumps along the highway to stardom, heartbreak, losses, and scandals. And secrets—so many secrets to keep.

Today – Kathleen Carver hates publicity. Despite having been an actress of both stage and screen since the mid-1940s, she’s always despised the way newspapers and tabloids distorted stories about her private life. Her life had been unconventional for a single woman of her generation, making her an easy target for rumors. But now, at ninety-eight years old, she’s published her autobiography for personal reasons, and she hates that she had to do it. Additionally, she’s agreed to do several interviews for a documentary on a streaming channel, and it feels like torture sharing bits and pieces of her life with the world. But she has her reasons, and the public will never learn from her the true secrets she’s kept locked inside no matter how hard they try. Because old Hollywood had big secrets, and she refuses to betray her friends, or herself.

My thoughts about The Last Lady of the Silver Screen~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"Kathleen Carver stood on the sidelines studying the studio with disdain. It was set up to look like a living room with fake walls, an imitation fireplace, cheap carpet, and strategically placed furniture."

Two facts. I love historical fiction and Deanna Lynn Sletten is at the top of my must-read authors, it doesn't matter what she writes. I absolutely love it when she releases a new historical fiction story. I just know it's going to be interesting and educational. The Last Lady of the Silver Screen did not disappoint!

Kathleen Carver lived the beautiful life of the movie world, but also lived with secrets. The story is told is dual timelines, the past when she was young and in demand in the movie world, and the present when she is near the end of her life, sharing her story in her upcoming autobiography, as well as holding an in-depth interview. She has her reasons for sharing her private life now but no one will learn all of the secrets. Some things cannot be shared.

I was dropped into the magical days of the movie world of the 1940's with this story, where all the actors and actresses were beautiful, glamourous people and huge stars in the entertainment world. It was a glorious time to be alive. I absolutely loved reading about the movie world of the 40's and loved seeing all the movie star's names mentioned in the story. I love old movies and this story was a reminder to me of all of those great people from the past.

The Last Lady of the Silver Screen is a beautifully written story about an amazing time, with an interesting character who lived through a lot. I devoured this story when I started it and loved every second I was in that world. I came to care deeply about Kathleen and admired everything she lived though. I loved all the references to the old movies and movie stars. I think I'll go watch an old movie now.

Seriously though, if you are an old movie buff, you are going to love this story. And even is you aren't into that thing, you'll still love it for the fabulous storyline and characters. I highly recommend The Last Lady of the Silver Screen. Don't miss it!

I received The Last Lady of the Silver Screen from the author and this is my honest opinion of the book.

Release Day! Christmas at Mountain View Lodge by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts and a #Giveaway! #ChristmasAtMountainViewLodge

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Deanna
on the release today of
Christmas at Mountain View Lodge!

Christmas at Mountain View Lodge by Deanna Lynn Sletten
Holiday Fiction, 145 pages
Published November 14, 2023 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

The magic of Christmas in a mountain ski town brings up long-forgotten holiday memories.

1965 – On a vacation to Big Bear Lake in California, Arnie Burke falls in love with the rustic small town. He finds an old log saloon for sale just outside of town and tries to talk his wife, Edna, into buying it and moving there. With two young children and a comfortable life on the California coast, Edna isn’t thrilled with the idea. But Arnie is persistent, promising they will build the lodge up to one day be one of the grandest resorts in town. Edna finally agrees, and the Mountain View Lodge is born.

Today – Cassandra (Cassie) Nichols has a busy life and a prestigious job in Los Angeles. She has quickly risen to the top of the Public Relations firm where she works and is responsible for many high-profile celebrity clients. She is also engaged to Blake Chandler, a handsome man with a job as demanding as hers. When she receives a call from her old school friend, now the manager of Mountain View Lodge, that her help is needed at her grandparents’ lodge over the holidays, Cassie reluctantly goes. Her grandparents have passed on, and her parents have also died, and now she’s responsible for selling the family business. If she could just get the lodge through a successful holiday season, she could close it until it sells. What Cassie doesn’t know is that the memories of her childhood, her parents, and even the guests who’ve been coming for decades will make her homesick for the place she once thought she’d never want to own.

Can a Christmas tradition and an old love help Cassie find her way home?

My thoughts about Christmas at Mountain View Lodge ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"Summer - 1965 Edna Burke and her husband Arnie were having a wonderful time vacationing at Big Bear Lake, California."

In my opinion, there is nothing better than reading Christmas stories in the months of November and December, getting me in the mood for the holiday season. And then when it's a Christmas story by one of my all-time favorite authors, it's the epitome of awesomeness.

Cassie gets called back to help out at her family lodge, which is fine because after the first of the year it won't be her problem anymore. The lodge, which was such a big part of her life growing up, is about to be sold. Little did she know that spending time there again would bring back all of the memories, feelings, and love that she had for her family and the people who were such an important part of her life and the lodge.

There is so much sweetness and love in this story that it brought tears to my eyes many times, and yes, I may get a little emotional this time of year. That's why this was such a beautiful tale to take in right now. It showcases the good in people and the importance of traditions to a person's wellbeing.

Christmas at Mountain View Lodge is definitely going to be one of my favorite Christmas reads of all time. I got me in all of my feels. Have a tissue handy when you start this book.

I highly recommend Christmas at Mountain View Lodge as the perfect holiday story to read this time of year.

P.S. And I'm pretty sure Deanna left a Stephen King Easter egg in the story. ðŸ¥š Let me know if you find it.

I received Christmas at Mountain View Lodge from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! Mrs. Winchester's Biographer by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts, Chapter 1, & a #Giveaway! @DeannaLSletten #MrsWinchestersBiographer

Happy Release Day!

Congratulations Deanna
on the release today of
Mrs. Winchester's Biographer!

Mrs. Winchester's Biographer by Deanna Lynn Sletten
Historical Fiction, 295 pages
Published October 3, 2023 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

Was Sarah Winchester a woman of mystery or simply a strong woman who lived her life on her own terms? It will take another strong woman to ensure her story is told.

1918 – Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune, has read and heard all the newspaper stories written about her. Snob. Crazy. Insane. Spiritualist. Ghosts. Séances. The list goes on and on. At the age of seventy-nine, she’s lived an incredible life and her wealth has allowed her to live as she pleased. Sarah loves projects, and now she has one last project she wishes to complete. It’s time she compiled her life story so friends and family will know the truth once she’s gone. But with her crippling arthritis, she needs someone to help her. She hopes the young woman her lawyer, Frank Lieb, has sent to the house will fit in with her staff and work well as her typist. Sarah knows she doesn’t have many years left, and this is a project she is determined to finish.

1918 – Olivia Collins is a young single woman who has found herself in a precarious predicament. Through a mutual friend, lawyer Frank Lieb, she’s been offered a chance to work with the infamous Sarah Winchester. Olivia is nervous about meeting the elderly woman she has heard stories about all her life. But she desperately needs this job. Without it, Olivia has no idea what her future will hold.

Today – Morgan Connors is helping her mother go through her recently deceased grandmother’s possessions when she comes upon an old manuscript. The title states it is Sarah Winchester’s Autobiography. Morgan works as an acquisition editor at a publisher in San Francisco and knows that no such book has ever been published. When her mother explains that Morgan’s great-great-grandmother, Olivia Collins, once worked for Mrs. Winchester, she’s intrigued. Who was Olivia Collins, and why did she have a manuscript of Sarah Winchester’s life story?

Mrs. Winchester’s Biographer tells the captivating story of Sarah Winchester’s life and how she became one of the most talked-about women of her time despite her attempts to protect her privacy.

My thoughts about Mrs. Winchester's Biographer ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"May 1918 - Olivia Anne Collins tried not to wring her gloved hands as the black automobile pulled up to the front door of the beautiful Atherton, California home."

One of the things I enjoy most when reading historical fiction is the knowledge I get about the topic I'm reading about. I was not the best student in school but I loved to read so when an author can put a fictionalize spin on the past, I am captivated.

Deanna does an excellent job of humanizing a person and making a place and time real to me in Mrs. Winchester's Biographer. I knew nothing at all about Sarah Winchester and the life she led or how ostracized she was for the solitary life she chose to live. After reading this wonderful story, I want to know more about her and her amazing life.

I loved all of the characters of this intertwined tale of generations, from Sarah, all the way to Morgan, the great-great-granddaughter of the biographer, Olivia. I loved how the generations of women found themselves connected. Side note: I wonder how much each of us could find out about our ancestors that would be just as intriguing if only past stories and lives were shared with future generations. It is sad to think about how much of our history is being lost.

I have loved all of Deanna's stories and as usual, her latest one is always my new favorite! How does she do that?

If you love historical fiction, if you love biographies, if you love stories about strong women persevering through tough times, if you love generational stories tying women together resulting in a fantastic, engrossing tale, you need to read Mrs. Winchester's Biographer. It will totally be a satisfying read for you! Definitely ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s for me!

I received an ARC of Mrs. Winchester's Biographer from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! All the Pretty Girls by Deanna Lynn Sletten ~ My Thoughts and 3-Book #Giveaway! #AllThePrettyGirls @DeannaLSletten

Happy Release Day!

Congrats Deanna
on the release today of
All the Pretty Girls!

All the Pretty Girls by Deanna Lynn Sletten
Women's Crime Fiction, Amateur Sleuths
Published March 14, 2023 by Deanna Lynn Sletten

There’s a serial killer on the loose around Florida State University, or at least that’s what everyone believes. Young women go missing for several days and then are found dead a few miles from where they were abducted. The local police and an FBI task force are working to find the culprit but with no success. Meanwhile, all the women around Tallahassee are afraid they may be next.

When Amber Johnston, Rachel’s daughter’s roommate and best friend, is discovered missing on the first day of spring break, Rachel becomes involved. Unfortunately, her boyfriend, FBI Agent Avery Turley, is in Idaho as part of a task force searching for a different serial killer. So, Rachel turns to Lieutenant Jack Meyers of the Panama Beach City Police Department for help. Together they search for Amber, leading them on the trail for the culprit killing all the pretty girls.

My thoughts about All the Pretty Girls ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"Rachel Emery listened to the evening news as she prepared dinner. ...... Another murder victim had been found."

Deanna is one of my favorite must-read authors. I was so excited when I found out she was writing a mystery series. I've loved each story in this series and they just keep getting better and better. I have really come to care about Rachel and her family, friends, and co-workers. And each mystery that she has to solve is intense and keeps me on the edge of my seat.

All the Pretty Girls hits on a very relevant scenario that is happening way too much now in our current times—coeds being abducted from college campuses. Rachel's daughter becomes personally involved when her roommate, and best friend, comes up missing. Well, you know that Rachel is going to kick it into high gear to get the mystery solved to stop the abduction of innocent women.

The story hits the intense phase when time is running out and Rachel wonders if she will be able to figure out who is nabbing these women before another one ends up missing or dead. She is also wondering who she can trust and who she can't. Who is lying to her? The ending will have you holding your breath as the villain is revealed and dealt with, but at what cost?

I love the whole series and All the Pretty Girls is a perfect addition to this set of stories. I highly recommend it, as well as all of the other books in this series. As always, I look forward to the next installment of the Rachel Emery series

I received an ARC of All the Pretty Girls from the author and this is my honest opinion.
