On Tour: Mean Streak by Sandra Brown

Mean Streak

Mean Streak by Sandra Brown
Paperback, 416 pages
Published: February 10, 2015 by Grand Central Publishing
(first published August 19th 2014)

From #1 New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown comes a heart-pounding story of survival, that takes the age-old question, "Does the end justify the means?" and turns it on its head.

Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her.

While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name. She's determined to escape him, and willing to take any risks necessary to survive.

Unexpectedly, however, the two have a dangerous encounter with people who adhere to a code of justice all their own. At the center of the dispute is a desperate young woman whom Emory can't turn her back on, even if it means breaking the law. Wrong becomes right at the hands of the man who strikes fear, but also sparks passion.

As her husband's deception is revealed, and the FBI closes in on her captor, Emory begins to wonder if the man with no name is, in fact, her rescuer from those who wish her dead - and from heartbreak.

Combining the nail-biting suspense and potent storytelling that has made Sandra Brown one of the world's best loved authors, MEAN STREAK is a wildly compelling novel about love, deceit, and the choices we must make in order to survive.

My thoughts about Mean Streak ~~

I had read a good number of Sandra Brown's books in the past but not any recently. I am not sure when or why I stopped. I always enjoyed them and considered her one of my 'must-read' authors. Maybe it was when I stopped working in a public library where I saw all her new books come in. I just seemed to kind of lose track of her and her books. Whatever the reason, I can honestly say that I discovered that I have missed her wonderful and suspenseful (with a little romance and love thrown in) stories.

Mean Streak is a wonderful example of the great storytelling that Sandra does so well. There is enough suspense and action to keep the reader interested and on the edge of their seat. And there are some great characters in the story. I immediately connected with the wonderful main character, Emory. She's got everything going for her and she is just such a nice person. And then there are some not so nice characters, ahem, a husband to name one. And then there's the stranger who holds Emory in his cabin after her 'accident'. Right -- an accident.
'I'd say he has a mean streak a mile wide.'
The plot and characters were so well written that I really felt a strong connection to the characters and what they were experiencing. I thought I had it all figured out and knew who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. But, really, not so much.

Now that I have rediscovered Sandra Brown, she is going back on my list of must-read authors. I just enjoy her stories so much!
