Saturdays at Sweeney's

Saturdays at Sweeney's by Ashley Farley
Series: Sweeney Sisters #5
Kindle edition, 250 pages
Published: January 16th 2018

Members of the Sweeney family, young and old, chart their courses for the future in this final installment of the bestselling Sweeney Sisters Series.

When the seafood business Lovie Sweeney established sixty years ago is destroyed by fire, she finds herself at the center of an arson investigation. What really happened that night? Is Lovie responsible for starting the fire or is her family under attack from a sworn enemy?

The loss of their family business leaves the Sweeney clan in flux. Samantha faces the challenges of rebuilding the market while her son, Jamie, on track to graduate from college in six months, must decide whether to make his permanent home in Prospect or move to Charleston where a new special someone resides. At age forty-five, Faith, who has never fully recovered from an abusive marriage, is on a quest to find her true passion? Jackie is distraught when her son, Sean, flunks out of college and struggles to find direction in his life without his twin brother to guide him. A medical diagnosis brings the sisters closer together and threatens to change family dynamics forever.

The Sweeney women remind us that it’s never too late to begin a new endeavor and to never stop chasing your dreams until you draw your last breath.

My thoughts about Saturdays at Sweeney's ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"The shrill ringing of Sam's cell phone jolted her upright in bed a few minutes before twelve on a stormy Wednesday night in early May. Blinking his eyes open, Eli propped himself up on one elbow beside her. She snatched the phone up from her nightstand. Sam could hardly hear the man's voice over the wail of the sirens in the background."

If you have not picked up the Sweeney sisters series, you really must...as soon as possible. You will fall in love with this family, just like I did. The three Sweeney sisters are not perfect, by any means. As a matter of fact, they all have had their share of troubles and hardships but because they have family and good friends, they make it through the tough times.

Saturdays at Sweeney's get off to an intense start with a fire at the family business—a business that has been thriving for several generations and is the glue that holds the family together. Now with it gone, what's going to happen to the Sweeneys? And then there's the question of how the fire started? Was it arson? And is a Sweeney guilty of starting it?

As the family works on regrouping, the matriarch of the family is failing and the family receives some devastating news. How much more can this family handle?

This is an amazing series that captured me from the start, full of memorable characters that I came to think of as friends. I'm sad that this is the last book in the series but I am hoping that some of the characters have a strong enough voice that the author will take us back for a visit.

"God gives us life, and we owe it to him to give that life everything we've got."

I received a copy of Saturdays at Sweeney's from the author in exchange for my honest review.

About the author

Ashley Farley

Ashley Farley writes books about women for women. Her characters are mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives facing real-life issues. Her goal is to keep you turning the pages until the wee hours of the morning. If her story stays with you long after you've read the last word, then she's done her job.

After her brother died in 1999 of an accidental overdose, she turned to writing as a way of releasing her pent-up emotions. She wrote Saving Ben in honor of Neal, the boy she worshipped, the man she could not save.

Ashley is a wife and mother of two young adult children. While she’s lived in Richmond, Virginia for the past 21 years, part of her heart remains in the salty marshes of the South Carolina Lowcountry where she grew up. Through the eyes of her characters, she’s able to experience the moss-draped trees, delectable cuisine, and kind-hearted folks with lazy drawls that make the area so unique.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
