Three Days in June by Anne Tyler ~ My Thoughts #ThreeDaysInJune

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler
Fiction, Romance, Contemporary, 165 pages
Published February 11, 2025 by Knopf

A new Anne Tyler novel destined to be an instant classic: a socially awkward mother of the bride navigates the days before and after her daughter's wedding.

Gail Baines is having a bad day. To start, she loses her job—or quits, depending on whom you ask. Tomorrow her daughter, Debbie, is getting married, and she hasn’t even been invited to the spa day organized by the mother of the groom. Then, Gail’s ex-husband, Max, arrives unannounced on her doorstep, carrying a cat, without a place to stay, and without even a suit.

But the true crisis lands when Debbie shares with her parents a secret she has just learned about her husband to be. It will not only throw the wedding into question but also stir up Gail and Max’s past.

Told with deep sensitivity and a tart sense of humor, full of the joys and heartbreaks of love and marriage and family life, Three Days in June is a triumph, and gives us the perennially bestselling, Pulitzer Prize–winning writer at the height of her powers

My thoughts about Three Days in June ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"People don't tap their watches anymore; have you noticed? Standard wristwatches, I'm talking about. Remember how people used to tap them?"

Three Days in June covers the day before, the day of, and the day after the wedding of Gail Baines' daughter, Debbie. The first day starts off with Gail losing her job and then her ex showing up at her doorstep, with a cat. And the awkwardness and drama just continues from there.

This book had me in it's grip from the very start. And Anne Tyler's writing had the words flowing from the pages to the comfort center of my brain. She has such a beautiful way with words! Throughout the turmoil and excitement of a wedding, I felt like I was among friends and enjoyed all three days that I spent with these people.

Three Days in June is a quick, enjoyable read and one I know you will enjoy. Highly recommend!

I received Three Days in June from Goodreads and this is my honest opinion of the book.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? December 1, 2025 #IMWAYR

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
