Beach House Rules by Kristy Woodson Harvey
Women's Fiction, Summer, Contemporary, 368 pages
Published May 27, 2025 by Gallery Books

"Southern bestselling sensation” (Katie Couric Media) Kristy Woodson Harvey returns with a delightfully moving new novel about a mother-daughter duo learning to lean on their community of women—and each other—after their world is turned upside down.

When Charlotte Sitterly’s husband is arrested for a white-collar crime, she and her daughter Iris are locked out of their house by the FBI and—what’s potentially even worse—thrust into the spotlight of @JuniperShoresSocialite, the town’s snarky anonymous Instagram account. Cut off from her bank accounts and feeling desperate, Charlotte takes up an acquaintance’s offer to stay at a beachfront former bed-and-breakfast that’s home to a community of single mothers and draws plenty of gossip in the small coastal North Carolina town.

Charlotte and Iris find solace and are surprised by how much fun they’re having with the other families despite their circumstances. But when the women discover a secret link between them, it changes everything they thought they knew about the unconventional family they’ve created and leaves them wondering whether their coming together was a coincidence at all. Will the skeletons in the mommune closets help Charlotte and Iris reclaim their place in the Juniper Shores community—or shatter the sisterhood forever?

“Perfect for fans of Elin Hilderbrand and Jennifer Weiner” (Country Living), Beach House Rules is a charming exploration of the joy of friendship, the true meaning of family, and reclaiming the power to reshape our own destiny.

My thoughts about Beach House Rules ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"It was the cicadas that sold me. That, or maybe the May Flower Moon. The May Flower Moon. Has there every been a more beautiful term?'

Aw man, I want to live in a mommune and discover the friendships that Charlotte and Iris did when they moved in! As their world is shattered, a stranger opens her house and heart to them in order for them to heal. As the moms and children, who are also living in this house, support and come to love each other, Charlotte and Iris discover what truly is considered 'family'.

I loved the 'rules' of the house as they bonded everyone together. Some of the rules were not easy to follow but they were in place for good reasons. The struggles of each family were shouldered by them all and made each member of the mommune stronger and more loved.

I absolutely love Kristy's stories and this one is right at the top of my list as one of my favorites. I highly recommend it and I guarantee it will become one of your memorable beach reads this summer. You really need to add it to your TBR list!

I received a copy of Beach House Rules from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
