New Release! The Fault Between Us by Bette Lee Crosby ~ My Thoughts #TheFaultBetweenUs

The Fault Between Us

The Fault Between Us by Bette Lee Crosby
Historical Life Fiction, 250 pages
Published October 5, 2021 by Bent Pine Publishing

April 18, 1906 – A devastating earthquake rocks San Francisco and Templeton Morehouse fears her husband is lost forever. A powerful and compelling story from USA Today bestselling author Bette Lee Crosby

Chances were a million to one that a girl born and raised in Philadelphia would encounter a stranger from California on the trolley and fall madly in love, but that’s what happened. Templeton was not only taken with John Morehouse, but also with his tales of life in San Francisco. As an aspiring fashion designer, the dazzle of a city called the Paris of the West, with its towering department stores and European couture was too much to resist.

Despite her family’s objections, she and John are married and, on their way back to California, before the month is out. To ease the heartbreak of such a move, Templeton promises her family that they will return for a visit every summer. She fully intends to keep that promise, but as her fashions gain popularity, the business grows increasingly more demanding. The trips back to Philadelphia become less frequent and she makes foolish choices she will come to regret.

Now, when she is on the verge of having everything she’s ever wanted, a devastating earthquake has torn across San Francisco and she awakes to discover the father of her baby is missing.

With the city in flames, Templeton’s daddy leaves Philadelphia and sets out in search of his son-in-law. He’s too old for such a trip and ill-equipped for the challenges he will encounter, but he’s the only hope of saving his daughter’s happiness.

Lines of communication are down and the city in shambles, so the only thing Templeton can do is pray she doesn’t lose both her daddy and her husband.

My thoughts about The Fault Between Us ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"Templeton Whittier Morehouse. The one thing that you can be certain of in this life is that nothing is for certain. Nothing. Not even a future that once seemed as fixed in place and as solid as the Rock of Gibraltar."

I have read and loved all of Bette's books. She always writes such beautiful, heartwarming, magical stories. She has outdone herself with this one though, kicking her storytelling up to a higher level. It can't be easy writing historical fiction, with all the research required to 'get it right'. Well, she did it! I really felt like I was there, experiencing all of the drama and scariness of the San Francisco earthquake of 1906.

At the center of the story is Templeton and her family, living their best lives in Philadelphia. Templeton is a strong independent woman, working to fulfill her dreams of becoming a fashion designer when a chance encounter with a stranger changes her life forever. Uprooting her life to San Francisco brings even more changes and danger when her loved ones are trapped in the earthquake.

The Fault Between Us is an amazing account of what it must have been like during that horrible tragedy in 1906, demonstrating the resiliency and kindness of the people who lived through it. This is the perfect read for all fans of historical fiction. I loved it and highly recommend it!

I received an ARC of The Fault Between Us from that author and this is my honest opinion.

About the author

"Storytelling is in my blood," Crosby laughingly admits, "My mom was not a writer, but she was a captivating storyteller, so I find myself using bits and pieces of her voice in most everything I write."

It is the wit and wisdom of that Southern Mama Crosby brings to her works of fiction; the result is a delightful blend of humor, mystery and romance along with a cast of quirky charters who will steal your heart away. Her work was first recognized in 2006 when she received The National League of American Pen Women Award for a then unpublished manuscript. She has since gone on to win twenty awards for her work; these include: The Royal Palm Literary Award, the FPA President's Book Award Gold Medal, Reader's Favorite Award Gold Medal, and the Reviewer's Choice Award. ~ Goodreads

New Release! When I Last Saw You by Bette Lee Crosby ~ My Thoughts #WhenILastSawYou

 Happy Release Day!

Congrats Bette
on the release of
When I Last Saw You!

When I Last Saw You by Bette Lee Crosby
Family Life Fiction, 329 pages
Published May 4th 2021 by Bent Pine Publishing

From USA Today Bestselling Author Bette Lee Crosby comes a powerful southern saga based on a true story… Betrayal and secrets tore her family apart decades ago, now a lonely widow must search for the pieces of her broken childhood.

GEORGIA, 1968 - Margaret Rose McCutcheon has just buried her husband and must now name a beneficiary for their estate in case of her demise. She is hard-pressed to do so because there is no one. No children. No family. At least none to speak of. At one time, she had two sisters and six brothers, but the lot of them were scattered to the four winds, with no one knowing where the others went. In the hope of finding at least one of her siblings, Margaret hires a detective and sets off on a journey to uncover the truth of why the family broke apart as it did.

WEST VIRGINIA, 1901 – When Eliza Hobbs gives birth to her sixth child, her husband is not there to welcome his daughter into the world. No surprise, because Martin is seldom there. He works in Charleston and returns to Coal Creek only when he has a mind to. Yes, he sends money on occasion, but seldom enough to make ends meet. Although Eliza believes each new child a blessing, he sees them as yet another responsibility on his already overloaded shoulders. When he discovers another child is on the way, he demands she get rid of it. he stops returning home and there is no more money.

Left with the children, a mountainside patch of land, and a house in sorry need of repair, Eliza seeks help and turns to someone powerful enough to hold sway over Martin and force him into providing for his family. Pushed to the brink, Martin does something unforgivable and the family is forever torn apart.

Now, after all these years, will Margaret be the one to find the pieces of her broken family?

My thoughts about When I Last Saw You ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"I lost Albert a week ago Friday. It happened in the blink of an eye. One minute he was on the telephone arguing with a client; the next he was face down on the desk, dead."

Bette Lee Crosby has done it again! She has created wonderful characters who I fell in love with and an interesting setting and time that captured my imagination.

Eliza Hobbs' life is a hard one, not just the time that she was living in, 1901, but then to have a cheating, abusive husband on top of it. But she created a loving family and embraced her many children. She eventually had to do what was best for them and split them apart, which broke my heart. Years later, one of her daughter sets out to find her long lost siblings.

The story of Margaret's quest to find her brothers and sisters uncovers plenty of family drama but also reveals a whole lot of love. When I Last Saw You will take you on a touching, emotional journey—one that fill your heart.

I absolutely loved When I Last Saw You, which I knew I would because I have loved all of Bette's story. She truly has the gift of storytelling and whenever I start one of her books, I know I'm going to get lost in her world and fall in love with her characters. I highly recommend this beautiful, heartwarming story!

I received an ARC of When I Last Saw You and this is my honest opinion.

21416024

I have sooooo many books! The Book Spotlight Giveaway feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves, to share some of the many books I have, and to give someone else the opportunity to enjoy these treasures.

This book has a very special place in my heart. This wonderful author actually wrote me in as a character. What a thrill it was to see my name in this beautiful story. She made me a reliable, ethical lawyer. How awesome is that? You can read my thoughts about this book HERE.

Seriously though, I have been virtual friends with Bette for a very long time. She initially contacted me on Goodreads and asked if I would be interested in reading and reviewing one of her books. Well, after that first read, I was hooked on her amazing stories and have been an advance reader for everything she has since published. She is such a kind and generous person and creates heartwarming stories with characters you will fall in love. I hope you give her a chance and come to love her books as much as I do.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

Release Day! A Million Little Lies by Bette Lee Crosby ~ My Thoughts #AMillionLittleLies #NetGalley

53030992

Congrats Bette
on the release today of
A Million Little Lies!

A Million Little Lies by Bette Lee Crosby
Print and e-book, 261 pages
Published June 16th 2020 by Bent Pine Publishing

A lifetime of lies, and a truth too painful to tell.

When Suzanna Duff was ten years old, she lost her mama, and that’s when the lies began. At first, they were just harmless little fibs, a way to hide her unbearable loneliness and the truth about a daddy who came home rip-roaring drunk every night. But in time, the lies grew bigger and now, when she is a grown woman with a daughter of her own, they threaten to destroy everything she loves.

The irony of this situation is that Suzanna never planned to stay in Georgia, she was simply passing through, looking for a fresh start in New Jersey. Attending that wake with her daughter Annie, was a fluke. An opportunity to enjoy a free meal. It should have entailed nothing more than a solemn nod and a brief expression of sympathy but, Ida Parker, the grieving widow mistook her for her the granddaughter who was carried off as an infant. Too embarrassed to do anything else, Suzanna played along. What harm was there in pretending to be someone else for a few hours? Hours turned into days and days into weeks; strangers became friends, love happened, and before long a year had flown by.

Now the past is standing on her doorstep and Suzanna must decide to leave here and disappear as she has done before, or tell the truth and break the hearts of those she loves most.

My thoughts about A Million Little Lies ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"In the weeks following her mama's death, ten-year-old Suzanna Duff learned to lie as convincingly as any con man who'd ever walked the earth."

A life full of lies—you just know that that kind of life is going to end up all wrong. Right? Suzanna has been lying her whole life. And 'living a life of lies is a very difficult thing'

Even with all of Suzanna's lying, Bette has once again created a very likable character. Suzanna has the best intentions with her lies, she's just trying to get by and make a better life for herself and her daughter, Annie. She never could of imagined the magnitude of the lies that she would end up telling when they stopped in a small town in Georgia. All they wanted was a quick meal before they continued on their journey.

A Million Little Lies is a beautifully written story full of interesting characters, some you will love and some you will despise. I especially loved Ida and wished I had someone in my life like her. Bette's characters are always so likable, memorable, and real. Suzanna, Annie, and Ida's story is one that you need to discover and it will be one that you will not soon forget. And as always, there are bits of wisdom all throughout the book, something that I just love about Bette's books.

I received a copy of A Million Little Lies from the author via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! Emily, Gone by Bette Lee Crosby ~ My Thoughts #EmilyGone

43614756

Congrats Bette
on the release today of
Emily Gone!

Emily, Gone
by Bette Lee Crosby

Paperback and e-book, 398 pages
Expected publication April 30th 2019 by Lake Union Publishing

A missing child sets the lives of three women on a collision course in this powerful and compelling novel by USA Today bestselling author Bette Lee Crosby.

1971.

When a music festival rolls through the sleepy town of Hesterville, Georgia, the Dixon family’s lives are forever changed. On the final night, a storm muffles the sound of the blaring music, and Rachel tucks her baby into bed before falling into a deep sleep. So deep, she doesn’t hear the kitchen door opening. When she and her husband wake up in the morning, the crib is empty. Emily is gone.

Vicki Robart is one of the thousands at the festival, but she’s not feeling the music. She’s feeling the emptiness over the loss of her own baby several months before. When she leaves the festival and is faced with an opportunity to fill that void, she is driven to an act of desperation that will forever bind the lives of three women.

When the truth of what actually happened that fateful night is finally exposed, shattering the lives they’ve built, will they be able to pick up the pieces to put their families back together again?

My thoughts about Emily, Gone ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"It's been forty-seven years since the music festival took place at Harold Baker's farm, but everyone in Hesterville remembers that weekend."

I have loved all of Bette's books but this has now become my favorite. Her books are always full of wonderful and interesting characters, so much love, and so much wisdom. Emily, Gone will pull at your heart strings and make you feel all the feels. A mother's love is so, so strong. And in Emily, Gone one mother's love never forgets and another mother's love causes heartache and tears.

I loved how Bette transported me back in time to the 1970s—a time of peace and love. But that peace is shattered for Rachel when she finds her little baby missing from her crib. And will Vicki's actions give her the peace she is looking for after the loss of her own baby?

This was such a sad, but heartwarming story, a story that brought tears a few times. But at the same time, it was an uplifting story—such an amazingly beautiful story. And one that will stay with me for a long time.

I always recommend Bette's books—she is such a wonderful storyteller. Emily, Gone is definitely one you need to read!

I received and ARC of Emily, Gone from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

My thoughts about A Year of Extraordinary Moments ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First lines—"I'm an old woman and not long for this world, but I'm not afraid of dying. What I'm afraid of is leaving behind a grandson who will follow in his mama's footsteps."

Picking up and reading A Year of Extraordinary Moments was like going back to my old neighborhood and visiting again with my dear, dear friends. I was able to pick up with their lives just like I had never left them. That's what I love about Bette's books—her characters are so memorable that they stay with me and I think about them long after I've finished the book.

This book, #2 in the Magnolia series, focuses on Tracy, an unwed mother with a beautiful son who is loved by everyone who meets him. After a wild start to her life, Tracy seems to be settling down and making good decisions, all because of the love she has for her son. But when her son's father comes back into town looking to reconcile, Tracy's life starts spinning out of control again. How is she going to be able to choose the right path to take?

Bette's stories are always such gentle and loving stories and are always full of wonderful bits of wisdom that can apply to almost everyone in their everyday lives. I always learn so much about how to live life and always come away with a positive outlook about things when I finish one of her books. I highly recommend that you read A Year of Extraordinary Moments and I know you'll love this series as much as I do.

Bette, an extraordinary woman and writer, has penned yet another extraordinary tale!

One family learns that love is the greatest miracle of all—from USA Today bestselling author Bette Lee Crosby.

Aspiring journalist Meghan Briggs has always been the responsible one in the family. So when her father passes away unexpectedly, leaving behind his at-risk business, she steps up to save his legacy—even if that means putting her own dreams on hold.

Tracy couldn’t be more different from her sister. She’s always been the rebellious type, without much direction in life. But in the wake of her latest romantic disaster, she finds herself moving back home as a single mother.

As Tracy experiences the difficulties of new motherhood, Meghan faces her own struggle: trying not to fall for the stray puppy she rescued. This is no time for attachments—not to the adorable “Sox,” whose owner is bound to turn up any day, and certainly not to the handsome new vet in town. But as the summer unfolds, she discovers that, like Sox, she may need rescuing, too.

As both sisters navigate unexpected challenges and exciting new relationships, they’ll find that putting the past to rest can make way for beautiful new beginnings.

She has since gone on to win nineteen awards for her work; these include: The Royal Palm Literary Award, the FPA President's Book Award Gold Medal, Reader's Favorite Award Gold Medal, and the Reviewer's Choice Award. ~ Goodreads

The Summer of New Beginnings

The Summer of New Beginnings by Bette Lee Crosby
Series: A Magnolia Grove Novel
Paperback, and ebook, 284 pages
Published March 27th 2018 by Lake Union Publishing

Congratulations Bette
 on the release today of
The Summer of New Beginnings!

I've already read The Summer of New Beginnings and I loved it, just like I've loved all of Bette's books. I'm so excited that this is the beginning of a brand new series.
