My thoughts about Breaking the Story ~~

I first learned about Scottie Darden in Ashley's novella, Merry Mary. I loved that story and I love the character of Scottie. She is one tough woman, an investigative journalist who is not afraid of taking risks. I knew I wanted to read more about her and her adventures.

Breaking the Story is a wonderful, page turning, on the edge of my seat type of story that I couldn't put down. Scottie, being the photojournalist she is, just needs to take that one perfect photo to skyrocket her career. But she captures a shot that lands her in a whole bunch of trouble; her life is in danger kind of trouble.

And then along comes Guy Jordan. Is he the man to help her out of this tight and dangerous situation? Or does he, himself, present a whole other problem? She's not sure who she can trust anymore.

I loved this story as I have loved everything else that Ashley has written and I really hope Ashley has plans to make this a series. I am looking forward to more adventures with Scottie. She is a wonderful main character and I think this is a great beginning to what could be an amazing series!

Excerpt

Guy navigated his way through the crowd to where Scottie was seated. "Well now, isn't this a coincidence?" he said.

She looked up from her martini. "Unless, of course, you're stalking me."

"Ouch. Hostile." He took a step back. "What happened to you in the hours since we last met?"

She jabbed at the olive with the pick in her martini. "Trust me, you don't want to know."

"Oh, but I do," he said, placing his hand over his heart. "The way I remember it, you owe me a drink for changing your tire. You even said you should buy it."

"All right, fine." When the woman next to her got up and left, Scottie extended an empty hand to the bar stool. "You might as well sit down. I'll buy you a drink. Then we'll be even."

Guy slid onto the bar stool and signaled the bartender. "I'll have a Dewars on the rocks. And bring the lady another of whatever she's having." He glanced down at

her glass. "What are you having?"

"Tequila martinis. My third."

"Whoa. What's with the serious mood? You might as well tell me. I'll keep guessing until you do."

She drained the last of her drink and set the glass down on the bar. "Trust me, you don't want to hear this drama."

"Why don't you let me make that decision?"

On Tour: Bending the Rules by L.K. Lewis and a Giveaway!

Bending the Rules

Bending the Rules by L.K. Lewis
(Breaking the Rules #2)
Publication date: April 1st 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

“Drake isn’t just someone I love, he’s the one I love the most in this world. He’s my best friend, my breath, my everything. I realize in this moment that the true reason I’m on this journey to find Drake is not just because I miss him and want him back, I’m also missing a huge part of me. Until we’re together again, my life isn’t complete. Without him I’m not whole.” - Morgan

“… I’m so sorry I couldn’t go to you. It was nearly impossible not to but Morgan we wouldn’t be standing here right now if I had. You found me Baby. When you met me on your first day at Baylor what seems like a lifetime ago you found me. Only this time I’m not letting you go.” - Drake

Struggling to get her life back on track after being left suddenly and inexplicably by (secret) boyfriend –not- boyfriend and boss Drake Baylor Jr., Morgan Lane searches the globe to find Drake knowing that the only way to truly live the life she’s worked so hard for is with him by her side.

Banished to Zurich, Switzerland by his father after being caught Breaking the Rules, Drake has nine months to get the European Division of Baylor Industries back on track. Again, he must obey the rules so that he can hopefully return to his life with Morgan and take the helm of Baylor Industries.

Everything is going according to plan as usual for Adrian Thompson who has just gotten Drake banished to Switzerland as part of his plan to get Morgan (his college sweetheart and hopefully future trophy wife) back in his life for good. With a little help from Lana Lane, Morgan’s mother, Adrian is hoping to have Morgan wearing his ring by New Year’s Eve.

After a few months of being wooed by old flame and now boss Adrian, and without so much as a word from Drake, Morgan hesitantly accepts Adrian’s invitation to join him for New Year’s Eve in St.Moritz Switzerland. Foiling Adrian’s plan, a “chance encounter” finds Morgan back in Drake’s arms.

Will Drake and Morgan be able to overcome the distance and time that is now between them along with a few of the hurdles that life has thrown their way? Morgan and Drake are once again faced with figuring out how to start their new future together- this time not Breaking the Rules, only Bending them.

My thoughts about Bending the Rules ~~

I just finished reading the first book in this series, Breaking the Rules, right before I started this one, Bending the Rules. I loved that I was able to just continue with this great story and see how Drake and Morgan could go from breaking the rules to bending the rules. I enjoyed the first book a whole lot but honestly, I think I liked the second one better.

In Bending the Rules, the characters are developed a lot more and we get to see more of the personalities of the main characters as well as those of the supporting characters. The story seemed more real to me and I felt like I got to know the characters better.

The relationship between Morgan and Amanda is developed more and we get to see how much they mean to each other and how much they rely on each other.
'I love that I can always count on her to be there for me. I may not have a lot of people in my life that I keep close to me, but Amanda is not only my very best friend, she's like a sister to me. I don't know what I'd do without her.'
All of the characters grow and mature in their friendships and relationships. I enjoyed getting to know them all a little bit more in this second book. There will be a third book in this series and I am excited to see where that book takes me as the reader but also what direction the lives of the characters will go.

And... we get to globe trot along with Morgan and Drake. Let's see, we go to Zurich, Vegas, London, Rome, Paris ..... It's all wonderful!

Breaking the Rules by L.K. Lewis

Breaking the Rules

Breaking the Rules by L.K. Lewis
Series: Breaking the Rules #1
Print and e-book, 207 pages
Published: September 17th, 2013

Morgan Lane has just completed grad school, and has accepted a job at Baylor Industries with the help of her father, who just so happens to be golf buddies with Drake Baylor Sr., CEO. Morgan has lived her 24 years of life under her parents thumbs, and is more than eager to start living life and carving successful career for herself.

Drake Baylor Jr. is being groomed to take over as CEO of Baylor Industries upon his father’s retirement. Although he was raised in an affluent household, his formative years were rough, leading to a string of bad decisions, and hard lived years. In order to take over as CEO, his father has given him a set of rules to live by for an indefinite period of time: No drugs, limited alcohol consumption, and absolutely no relationships whatsoever with women-his greatest weakness. If Drake can abstain from those three things, work hard, and gain his father’s trust, he can have the keys to the Kingdome.

Drake meets Morgan on her first day at Baylor Industries, and the phrase “love at first sight” doesn't even come close to describing what is felt between them. Their instant attraction is a magnetic pull that is stronger than either one of them can handle. Now Drake and Morgan are faced with figuring out how to fight for their future together, hoping not to get caught “Breaking the Rules”.

My thoughts about Breaking the Rules ~~

I had seen Breaking the Rules around for awhile and it had intrigued me. And then it's sequel, Bending the Rules came out and I jumped at the chance to be a part of it's tour. So I was able to read one book right after the other. That is an awesome way to read a series, don't you think?

I liked both Morgan and Drake from the start. You know right away that they have this amazing chemistry thing going on. But Morgan is trying to prove herself and not be one of 'those' people who gets a job just because of a golfing buddy favor to her dad. And Drake has to prove himself worthy of becoming the CEO of his father's company by abiding by the three conditions set by his father: no drugs, limited alcohol consumption, and absolutely no relationships whatsoever with women. Whoops! That's not going to be an easy task now that Morgan is in the picture.

And when I say the two of them have chemistry - whooee! Do they ever!! Can they stay apart? Can they live a secret life and be together? It was a fun ride watching them figure it out.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Breaking the Rules and since I have Bending the Rules up next, I get to just continue enjoying the story to see how Morgan and Drake figure out this relationship stuff.

Be sure and stop back on Thursday for my stop on the Bending the Rules tour. There will be a giveaway!

Excerpt
Bending the Rules (Breaking the Rules #2)
By L.K. Lewis
Morgan
“Hi, sweetie!” my mom answers the phone cheerfully. She obviously has put the “happy” in “happy hour” today.
“Hi, Mom.” I do my best to hold back my sniffle and speak in a clear voice, but fail miserably.
“Morgan, what’s wrong?” I never cry in front of my parents, so hearing a sob of any kind is cause for concern for my mother.
“Oh, Mom. It’s all screwed up,” I sob into the phone, while racing around my apartment trying to get packed for a trip with no real destination or timeframe.

“Okay, Morgan, slow down and take a deep breath,” my mom says as I envision her closing her eyes and doing her deep yoga breathing, while touching her thumbs to middle fingers and chanting “om” as she’s done so many times during my life. “Now tell me, darling, what is ‘all screwed up’?”
“Everything!” I continue to sob. “Everything is screwed up. I’ve lost Drake, I quit my job, and now I’m packing for a flight to God knows where, to search for the love of my life and bring him back, only I don’t have a clue where to start, and I can’t reach him.”
“You quit your job, Morgan? What happened? And who is Drake? Not Drake Baylor… Morgan, please tell me you haven’t fallen for a married man. That’s completely distasteful and unladylike.”
“Drake Baylor Jr., Mom. Not Sr. We've been dating for a few months now, only he isn’t allowed to have a relationship if he wants to take over his father’s company, so we have been dating in secret. We are head over heels in love, Mom. We went to Vegas last weekend and he told me he hoped to take over Baylor Industries soon, and as soon as that happens he plans on marrying me. Now he’s gone and I can’t get ahold of him. I know something has happened and I’m worried about him. I have a feeling his father has shipped him off somewhere, or he was fired and needed to clear his head and figure out his next move, but either way I have to find him. He needs me and I need him. God, I've never needed anything so badly in my entire life. Anyway, I thought you would like to know I’m going to the airport tonight, and will call you when I land, wherever that may be.”
“Morgan, sweetie, I think you might be overreacting just a bit. Why don’t you just come home for a few days, regroup, and figure things out. I’ll take you shopping, what do you say?” My mom obviously wasn't listening to anything but what she wanted to hear.
“I’m not overreacting, Mom. I’m simply reacting. My life has taken a sudden turn and for once in my life I’m grabbing the reins and taking control. I made the decision to break the rules with Drake just as much as he did. He’s out there somewhere fighting for me, and I need to step up and do the same.”
