Published February 8, 2022 by Berkley Books

In the wake of a tragedy and fueled by guilt from a secret she's kept for years, a woman discovers how delicate the thread that binds family is in this powerful novel by Lyn Liao Butler.

Two days before Tam and Tony Kwan receive their letter of acceptance for the son they are adopting from China, Tony and his estranged cousin Mia are killed unexpectedly in an accident. A shell-shocked Tam learns she is named the guardian to Mia's five-year-old daughter, Angela. With no other family around, Tam has no choice but to agree to take in the girl she hasn't seen since the child was an infant.

Overwhelmed by her life suddenly being upended, Tam must also decide if she will complete the adoption on her own and bring home the son waiting for her in a Chinese orphanage. But when a long-concealed secret comes to light just as she and Angela start to bond, their fragile family is threatened. As Tam begins to unravel the events of Tony and Mia's past in China, she discovers the true meaning of love and the threads that bind her to the family she is fated to have.

Fans of Amy Tan, Celeste Ng, Liane Moriarty, and Lyn’s last book The Tiger Mom’s Tale will love this suspenseful and heartwarming tale of family, culture, and forgiveness.

Praise for Red Thread of Fate

“A masterful story of sorrow, secrets and unexpected romance, Ms. Butler writes with humor, compassion and honesty. Simply wonderful.” —Kristan Higgins, New York Times bestselling author of Pack Up the Moon

"With a poignant tale and beautiful prose, Butler once again whisks us onto a powerful journey of loss, sorrow, but ultimately a journey of quiet strength." —Jesse Q. Sutanto, critically acclaimed author of Dial A for Aunties

"Red Thread of Fate has everything—family secrets, mystery, identity. The rare blend of suspense and humor that make this story hard to put down.” —Saumya Dave, author of What a Happy Family

“Lyn’s story is raw and complex and hits home to many.” —Asian American Girl Club

"Butler keeps the twists coming, plowing through the story at breakneck speed. She perfectly portrays Tam’s growing sense of ambivalence about the loss of her husband, her responsibility to Angela, and her desire to adopt, and skillfully adds depth to complicated characters such as Mia. Readers will devour this engaging family saga." —Publishers Weekly

"A heartfelt contemplation on the course of our lives—what is fate, what is the result of the choices we make—coupled with a central mystery that will keep you reading late into the night. It seems Lyn Liao Butler's fate is to entertain with absorbing stories and compelling characters that linger long after the final page." —Steven Rowley, New York Times bestselling author of The Guncle

"Red Thread of Fate is a novel about what ties people to one another, and the nature of those bonds, the unintended consequences of choices and the possibility of a fresh start. With contemplative characters, surprising humor and a twisting plot, Butler's thought-provoking story of nontraditional family models will appeal to readers interested in fate and identity.” —Julia Kastner for Shelf Awareness

New Release! Wildflower Wedding by Grace Greene ~ My Thoughts #WildflowerWedding

Congratulations Grace
 on the recent release of
Wildflower Wedding!

Wildflower Wedding by Grace Greene

Series: The Wildflower House #4
Published February 1, 2022 by Kersey Creek Books

In Wildflower Wedding ~ the fourth book in The Wildflower House series ~ A love story that triumphs over past heartbreak to embrace new love, new hopes, maybe even a few miracles of the heart....

Kara is on track to turn the old mansion her father left her into a creative retreat and event space, but after a successful holiday season and then a joyous Christmas celebration with her friends and family, it’s now January and winter has settled in. The brightest spot in the shorter, darker days, is the man she’s fallen in love with.

But she’s worried. Suppose the growing relationship is more a distraction than a ‘meant-to-be’ love story. She has successfully stepped out on her own to drive the project she envisioned, but does she risk derailing her progress toward opening the Wildflower retreat in spring by taking another chance on love only to find heartbreak? Can her heart survive even the possibility of one more loss?

My thoughts about Wildflower Wedding ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"The road that brought me to Wildflower House could easily be measured in miles."

What a beautiful way to celebrate all the goodness of the Wildflower House—hosting an amazing wedding. I have absolutely loved every book in this series and Wildflower Wedding was an excellent next step in this set of awesome stories.

The characters are great and I have loved watching them all come together, work through their issues, and form friendships—loving friendships. And I love the idea of the Wildflower House and can almost envision myself in the inviting kitchen and sitting by the warm fireplace, surrounded by caring people.

Like I said, I've loved this whole series and am always excited to go back. I hope there will be many more visits in the future. Pick up this series, you will not regret it. I highly recommend it and Wildflower Wedding is the icing on the cake, the wedding cake, that is. 😉

Thank you to Grace Greene for the ARC of Wildflower Wedding. This is my honest review of the book.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? February 7, 2022 #IMWAYR

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

**************************************

Pretty uneventful week. The weather is starting to warm up some, in the 40s some days. I joined a walking class that meets 3 times a week. It's been good to get me out of the house and commit me to getting a little bit of walking in. It's nice to have a place indoors to walk since it's been so cold. I'm hoping this will get me motivated to continue outside when it does warm up.

My son and his family just bought a house in TN and will be moving from FL next month. It would be a drivable trip instead of having to fly. I've already started planning our road trip to go visit them. There are some family and friends we could visit on our way to see them.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week.
Happy reading!

This OR That #Giveaway Week 46 ~ Little Wishes by Michelle Adams OR Sleepless by Romy Hausmann #LittleWishes #Sleepless

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves and to share some of the many books I have. It's a way for me to cull my collection and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Today I have ARCs of two very different books. One is a tender love story and the other, an exciting thriller. I loved them both. I can't wait to see which story one of you will pick.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

Little Wishes
by Michelle Adams
ARC ~ November 2020

For anyone who loves One Day in December and Me Before You, a sweeping love story, written with tenderness, warmth, and a generosity of spirit, about first love and second chances, a lifelong dream and finding the courage to follow your heart.

On her favorite day of the year, Elizabeth Davenport awakens in her cottage on the wild and windy Cornish coast, opens her front door, and discovers a precious gift: the small blue crocus and a note that begins I Wish . . . The notes are never signed, but she knows they’ve been left by her first and truest love, Tom Hale. Each of these precious missives convey a simple wish for something they had missed, and the life they might have shared, if circumstances hadn't forced them apart all those years ago. She has kept them all.

But on this day, what should have been the fiftieth anniversary of their falling in love, the gift fails to arrive. Could something have happened to Tom? Elizabeth has always been plagued by thoughts of “what if?” Propelled by worry and decades of pent up longing, Elizabeth packs a little suitcase, leaves Porthsennenon, and journeys to London . . . to find the love of her life once again.

Finding him, Elizabeth is faced with the desperate knowledge that any time they might have now is running out.  Never before had she thought that she might truly lose time—forever. And now, knowing that life is too short, Elizabeth vows to fulfill as many of Tom’s wishes as she can. Yet she fears that her efforts may expose the shameful secret that, until now, has kept them apart.

Can she continue to hide the truth, or will she have the courage to reveal herself completely and finally make their dreams come true—before it’s too late?

Sleepless
by Romy Hausmann
ARC ~ Pub date October 2021

Dark secrets past and present collide in Sleepless, a haunting novel of guilt and retribution from Romy Hausmann, the international best-selling author of Dear Child.

It's been years since Nadja Kulka was convicted of a cruel crime. After being released from prison, she's wanted nothing more than to live a normal life: nice flat, steady job, even a few friends. But when one of those friends, Laura von Hoven--free-spirited beauty and wife of Nadja's boss--kills her lover and begs Nadja for her help, Nadja can't seem to refuse.

The two women make for a remote house in the woods, the perfect place to bury a body. But their plan quickly falls apart and Nadja finds herself outplayed, a pawn in a bizarre game in which she is both the perfect victim and the perfect murderer.

Reading My TBR Piles~ February 2022 Edition #TBR

 YIKES!!

Look familiar? This is sometimes how my TBR piles/shelves feel to me. I have decided to make a more concerted effort to whittle down my TBR books. These will be books that on not on my review stack, but books that I own. These could be print, e-book, or audio-books., just books that I have been wanting to read. So, on the first Wednesday of each month I'm going to post the books that I read the previous month with the goal to clear off my TBR shelves.

*****************

I didn't do as well as I had hoped at getting actual physical books off my shelves. But all three of these books this month will fulfill an entry in my reading challenges so there is that. It feels good to be able to cross of so many already in January.

See any books here that on your own TBR pile?

Print

E-book

Audio-book
