Lilliane Moore leaves the forests and rolling hills of her rural hometown, Cub Creek, to accept a temporary assignment as a companion to an elderly man who lives at the beach. It’s a risky move that’s out of character for her, but her thirties are passing quickly – she feels like she's closing in on forty fast - plus she’s got a hole in her roof and no AC.
The big payday she’s been promised will fix a lot of it. But what's the catch? Plus, taking the job so far from home may be a risk - but the biggest risk for Lilliane may be in leaving the home and hometown to which her heart and past are irrevocably tied.
My thoughts about A Barefoot Tide ~~
(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)
First line—"On a Monday afternoon in June, Ms. Susan Biggs drove into the Fuel Up Fast parking lot."
I loved reading about the journey that Lilliane found herself on when she accepted the job of taking care of an elderly gentleman for a few weeks. Not only did I get to travel to the beach with her, I also got to watch her journey of finding out about herself and what makes her happy. She also comes to a better understanding of her parents and their tragic deaths.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Lilliane and Merrick, the elderly man she comes to take care of. But the real question is—who is taking care of whom? They have a no-holds-barred relationship right from the start, which garners respect on both sides. They seriously are good for each other.
A Barefoot Tide is a beautiful look at a woman who is just going through the motions of life. As she steps outside of her comfort zone, she discovers how much more there is to life. The journey to real happiness will mean change. Is she up for that?
I loved this story, full of hope and growth. It was a great read to escape into for a bit. And the time spent on the beach was an added bonus for a great get-away. You're going to love it to!
Thank you to Grace Greene for the ARC of A Barefoot Tide. This is my honest opinion of the book.
