The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch by Julia Brewer Daily
Women's Saga/Historical Fiction, 322 pages

Fate had not smiled on her yet.
Could she shoot this man?
She’d never killed anyone before.
Emma Rosales is the heiress to the largest ranch in Texas—The Thorn. All of the responsibilities of managing a million acres now fall into her fifth-generation hands.
A task Emma could handle with her eyes closed . . . if The Thorn was any ordinary property.
The Thorn is home to many things. Clear, cloudless skies. Miles of desert scrub and craggy mountains. A quiet disrupted only by whispers of the wind. And an ancient web of secrets that won’t let Emma out alive without a fight.
The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch is a family saga as large as the state of Texas.
My thoughts about The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch ~~
(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)
First line—"Emma swore under her breath and reached down to where her stirrup had been."
Julia Brewer Daily is a new-to me author. And to be honest, this story would probably not be the type of book I would pick up to read but when her publicist reached out to me asking me if I would want to read this one and another one of this author's books, I agreed to read them. Well, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the story.
Emma takes off on her horse to take a ride around the family ranch. When she comes upon a group of people living on the far reaches of their property, she enters a completely different world, a world she can not escape. Will she ever get back home and see her family again? And does she really want to leave the people she has come to know and love after spending so much time with them?
I was immediately drawn into the story and loved it to the very satisfying ending. I'm glad I took a chance on this new-to-me author and I look forward to more of her work. If you are a lover of historical fiction with an unexpected twist to the usual storyline, give The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch a try. I know you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
I received a copy of The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch from Books Forward and this is my honest opinion.
