New Release! House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen ~ My Thoughts #HouseOfGlass @sarahpekkanen @StMartinsPress

Congratulation Sarah
on the recent release of
House of Glass!

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen
Mystery Thriller, 352 pages
Published August 6, 2024 by St. Martin's Press

On the outside they were the golden family with the perfect life. On the inside they built the perfect lie.

A young nanny who plunged to her death, or was she pushed? A nine-year-old girl who collects sharp objects and refuses to speak. A lawyer whose job it is to uncover who in the family is a victim and who is a murderer. But how can you find out the truth when everyone here is lying?

Rose Barclay is a nine-year-old girl who witnessed the possible murder of her nanny - in the midst of her parent's bitter divorce - and immediately stopped speaking. Stella Hudson is a best interest attorney, appointed to serve as counsel for children in custody cases. She never accepts clients under thirteen due to her own traumatic childhood, but Stella's mentor, a revered judge, believes Stella is the only one who can help.

From the moment Stella passes through the iron security gate and steps into the gilded, historic DC home of the Barclays, she realizes the case is even more twisted, and the Barclay family far more troubled, than she feared. And there's something eerie about the house itself: It's a plastic house, with not a single bit of glass to be found.

As Stella comes closer to uncovering the secrets the Barclays are desperate to hide, danger wraps around her like a shroud, and her past and present are set on a collision course in ways she never expected. Everyone is a suspect in the nanny's murder. The mother, the father, the grandmother, the nanny's boyfriend. Even Rose. Is the person Stella's supposed to protect the one she may need protection from?

My thoughts about House of Glass ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First lines—"Tuesdays at 4:30 pm. That's her routine."

Once again, Sarah Pekkanen has entertained me with one of her suspenseful, intriguing stories. I love entering the worlds that she creates because I know I will be taken on a ride with twists and turns and bits I won't be expecting.

Poor Rose. She witnessed the horrific death of her nanny. Or is she the one who pushed her? Everyone suspects her, and honestly they are somewhat afraid of her. But she's an innocent 9 year old, right? Stella is there to help Rose but there are things that scare her as well. Something is not right in that house.

House of Glass is a story that captured my attention from the first page and I loved every minute of it. It kept me guessing until the end and had me holding my breath at times. Intense! Pekkanen does not disappoint with this story and as always, I'm  excited to see what she writes next.

I received a copy of House of Glass from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? August 5, 2024 #IMWAYR

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Gosh, ya just gotta love the weather in South Dakota. Last week we saw temps in the mid to upper 90s and now this week, we are going to be in the mid 70s. I'm not ready for fall just yet but I don't like the really hot temps. Hubs and I are looking at maybe going camping later this week, probably just in time for the temperatures to go up again. Sigh. Luckily we have an RV so if it gets really hot, I'll be the spoiled camper, sitting inside with the AC on. 😜

I'm sort of caught up with my review list for August so I think I'm going to take this opportunity to enjoy some of my personal books—some mood reading. I love when that happens.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week.
Happy reading!
