Queen Bee

Queen Bee by Dorothea Benton Frank
Series: Lowcountry Tales #12
Print and ebook, 432 pages
Published May 28th 2019 by William Morrow

New York Times-bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank returns to the American South in this latest novel about friendship and love that is full of heart, humor, and rich description.

A woman wounded by her past comes to Sullivan's Island, South Carolina to find new meaning in life and to find herself. As she takes up a new hobby of beekeeping, she begins to come into her own and rebuild her life. When a new friend comes in and she finally allows for something more than just "friendship", everyone will realize that life could use a little taste of sweetness.

In what is sure to be another classic, Dorothea Benton Frank weaves a fun tale of self-discovery, love, and friendship with her signature charming wit, indelible poignancy, and hallmark themes.

My thoughts about Queen Bee ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"Of all the stories I've ever told you, this is the one that you're going to remember. This is the one."

I have loved Ms. Frank's Lowcountry series and was so excited to read her newest one. Her stories are always filled with wonderful, fun, and interesting characters. And always full of that great southern charm that she does so well.

Queen Bee is a heartfelt—while at the same time—hilarious look at the dynamics of a family full of strong women. Strong women who find themselves being taken advantage of and having their worlds turned upside down. If Momma, Holly, and Leslie can iron out their differences and come together, there will be no stopping these women!

And as an added bonus we, the readers, get to learn so much about bees in this book. Holly's bees become characters in their own right in the book as well. Characters that one should not take lightly because they are as loyal as the other family members. Do not mess with the bees!

I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining, beautiful story that deals with love, acceptance, and strength. Queen Bee is the perfect summer read that should be savored by all.

I received an ARC of Queen Bee via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion of the book.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? June 24, 2019

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Another busy weekend full of kids and kiddos. I took two of the kiddos to see Toy Story 4 on Saturday. We loved it! And then I made tacos for the group. On Sunday, we went to our annual kite festival. Those huge kites are amazing. The downer was that they took the kites down about an hour after we got there, 3 hours early, because of the threat of rain. The kiddos had fun flying their little Dollar Tree kites though, so all was good. And I did get some reading in, even with all that.

On Tuesday, I'm heading to Colorado with my daughter and DIL, coming back on Sunday. It will be nice to get away with the two of them. And I love Colorado!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!

Well, we had a pretty exciting weekend. Our community had two tornado warnings on Saturday. Luckily, I don't think either time there was a touch down so there was little to no damage. As luck would have it, we were on the road both time, leaving and coming back from a short road trip. Hubby was really sorry to have missed it as he is a storm-chaser wanna-be.

With it being Father's Day on Sunday, we also had a weekend full of kids and grandkiddos. This week is shaping up to being super busy too. I'm ready to have a do-nothing, relaxing weekend.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!

My daughter and I just got back from spending the weekend in Deadwood attending the Wild Deadwood Reads event. We met a lot of author and got to look over a ton of new books. And we enjoyed the beautiful area surrounding the Black Hills and the sites of Deadwood. We love it out there!

I was also able to connect up with one of my very favorite authors, Deanna Lynn Sletten. I have read and loved all of her books and it was so much fun to spend some time with her and to finally get to meet her daughter. Her daughter, Deborah Bradseth, is a cover designer and has designed all of Deanna's covers, as well as other authors.
