Release Day! The Last Port of Call by Elizabeth Bromke ~ My Thoughts #TheLastPortOfCall @ElizabethBromke

Congrats Elizabeth
on the recent release of
The Last Port of Call!

The Last Port of Call by Patricia Sands
Friendship Fiction, 161 pages
Published March 20, 2023

Set sail to new adventures and escapes with eight best-selling authors in the exciting new Sail Away series!

Marie Stern is two things she doesn't want to be: freshly divorced and turning fifty. But if that isn’t bad enough, the messy dissolution has cost her much of her life savings and many of her friends.

So, the newly single Marie moves back home with her mother, a ornery octogenarian with a penchant for entering to win radio contests. Once back, Marie realizes her mom is in worse shape than she expected. Joan needs help, and Marie worries she was almost too late...

When Joan Stern’s adult daughter returns home, the timing couldn’t be worse. After entering and losing thousands of vacation contests over the years, the retired hairdresser has hit the jackpot. She just won two tickets to an all-expense-paid Alaskan cruise for a week. And she already promised the ticket to her boyfriend.

Marie doesn’t think it's wise for her mother to travel, especially on a cross-country boat trip. She's ready to put the kibosh on things, but it's too late. Not only is her mother going on this vacation, but she's taking with her a secret boyfriend. That is, until he dies, leaving Joan with one extra ticket and a zest for life so powerful that Marie must either pray that Joan doesn't fall overboard, or...

She can join her mother before the ocean liner reaches its last port of call.

Will the mother-daughter duo embark on a wild ride, full of laughter and tears and second chances? Or will they drown in their respective sorrows?

Drift into the beauty of Alaska aboard the Opal of the Seas in this feel-good and feisty women's fiction about a mother and daughter, life and love by USA Today bestseller, Elizabeth Bromke.

My thoughts about The Last Port of Call

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"'Enjoy this one.' Marie Stern taps a finger on Moby Dick then gives the worn paperback a gentle push. 'It's a classic.'"

Mothers and daughters—always an interesting and sometimes, stressful dynamic. And then to take that dynamic onto a cruise ship, where there is no getting away from each other. Yikes!

Joan wins a cruise for two and definitely does not expect to take her daughter along. Her situation changes and it seems like the two of them are going to be spending some quality time together. Will either of them survive the week?

This was a fun cruise for me—maybe not for them—as I watched their two personalities clash. Putting two strong women together always makes for an interesting storyline.

I'm a huge fan of this series and I highly recommend Last Port of Call, as well as this whole series, as an escape and as a way to experience the fun of a cruise or two, or eight.

I received a copy of The Last Port of Call from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Set sail to new adventures and escapes with eight best-selling authors in the exciting Sail Away series!

Sometimes magic happens…

Gabby Willets returns to her hometown of Ellenton, NY, to care for her father, who’s dying of cancer. She and her father are exceptionally close because her mother died giving birth to her in a situation that should never have happened. As Gabby was growing up, she and her father shared a love of cars and even participated in a few races. Her father suggests she work at the Dan Davis Lexus Dealership, where he has been head mechanic for years, and Gabby decides to do it. When a contest is announced with the prize of two tickets for a 10-day Caribbean cruise for the salesperson selling the most cars in a two-month period, Gabby goes for it, competing against the owner’s son, Hank.

Gabby wins the tickets, and she and her best friend, Jessica Knight, board the ship, Tropical Magic, hoping for some magic of their own. The cruise is full of surprises starting with Hank’s arrival with Ashley Phillips, the woman he’s been dating—a woman both Gabby and Jess detest with good cause. Though Hank and Gabby have been attracted to one another, they don’t act on it because dating someone you work with seldom works, and Gabby doesn’t want to lose her job. But as Gabby and Hank get to know one another, magic does happen and suddenly they’re faced with different choices.

Surprises continue, including the most touching surprise of all when Gabby and Hank discover more than a cruise was at stake.

Judith Keim is a USA Today Bestselling Author known for creating characters and stories her many loyal readers love. Join Gabby and Hank and others in this heart-warming story of love’s magic in The Sail Away series.

My thoughts about The Winning Tickets

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Gabby Willetts straightened her navy blazer, pushed back a lock of chestnut-brown hair from her face, and took a deep breath."

I have loved all of the stories in the Sail Away series. Each one gives me chance to take a little excursion on the ocean and enjoy a beautiful cruise ship.

The Winning Tickets starts with a competition—whoever sells the most cars wins an exciting cruise for two. Gabby wins and takes her best friend along, the two of them expecting to enjoy whatever, or whomever, they can. Then lo and be hold, Gabby discovers that the co-worker she beat out for the tickets, and his girlfriend, are sailing on the same cruise. But maybe there's a little trouble in their paradise?

The drama and fun that ensues from then on out makes this a memorable trip. Can Gabby and Hank remain co-workers and just friends or will one of them need to make a big sacrifice, all in the name of love?

I highly recommend The Winning Tickets, as well as this whole series, as an escape and as a way to experience the fun of a cruise or two, or eight.

I received a copy of The Winning Tickets from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Happy Release Day!

Congrats Violet
on the release today of
Moonlight on the Lido Deck!

Moonlight on the Lido Deck by Violet Howe
Friendship Fiction, 168 pages
Published March 1, by Charbar Productions

Set sail to new adventures and escapes with eight best-selling authors in the exciting Sail Away series!

In the past three months, Katie Torrey has lost her long-distance boyfriend, her beloved Manhattan apartment, and her all-consuming job. When she realizes the only one she's truly heartbroken over is the apartment, she decides it's time to do some soul-searching.

Katie's life crisis comes at the perfect time for her sister Maya, who needs Katie to come and watch over her surf shop while she cruises with her friend Ben. Maya gets free labor, and Katie gets a week at the beach to regroup and make a new life plan.

But when Maya gets injured and can’t make the cruise with Ben and his family, Katie’s tempted to take her place. A tropical vacation with all expenses paid sounds even better than a week at the beach, but there’s a catch. Maya had agreed to pretend to be Ben’s girlfriend, so Katie and Ben would need to share a room and live under a pretense of being madly in love, even though they’ve never met.

Will a week of sunsets, beaches, and umbrella drinks be worth keeping up the ruse? Or will Katie find it hard to keep her heart afloat when her pretend romantic adventure on the seas feels more real than the life she left behind?

Join Violet Howe as she brings the latest book in the Sail Away series to life, featuring a heartwarming story of unexpected love, tropical adventures, and a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.

My thoughts about Moonlight on the Lido Deck ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"If Katie had known what a bad day it was going to be, she might have stayed in bed with the covers pulled over her head."

Violet Howe is a new-to-me author and that is one of the things that I am loving about the Sail Away series. Other than the fact that I get to escape on these little mini-cruises with all these wonderful characters, I am also being exposed to a lot of new authors and I get a wonderful taste of their work.

Moonlight on the Lido Deck was a fun cruise. Katie's life is falling apart but she is convinced, at the last minute, to go on a cruise with her sister's best friend. Well, there are sparks for sure. And not just between Katie and Ben. She had no idea that Ben's mom and sister could be so volatile and just plain mean! It was interesting watching Katie trying to get on their better side, until she just can't take it any more.

Katie is just trying to figure herself out, and the direction she wants her life to take, after all of the turmoil she's survived. Can she walk away from maybe the best thing in her life in order to figure it all out? I love watching her growth and discovery.

I highly recommend Moonlight on the Lido Deck, as well as this whole series, as an escape and as a way to experience the fun of a cruise or two, or eight.

I received a copy of Moonlight on the Lido Deck from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Release Day! Caroline, Adrift by Kay Bratt ~ My Thoughts #CarolineAdrift @kaybratt

Happy Release Day!

Congrats Kay
on the release today of
Caroline, Adrift!

Caroline, Adrift by Kay Bratt
Friendship Fiction, 168 pages
Published February 22, 2023 by Red Thread Publishing Group

Set sail to new adventures and escapes with eight best-selling authors in the exciting Sail Away series!

After the death of her beloved James, one woman faces a future of feeling adrift and must find a reason to go on without the love of her life, from the bestselling author of Wish Me Home.

When Caroline McClellan’s beloved husband passes away, she doesn’t know what to do with herself without him as her center and reason for being. Caroline’s three adult daughters insist that she accompany them on the cruise that was supposed to mark her fiftieth wedding anniversary. Caroline is a reluctant participant and sure she will not find any joy in a voyage that was supposed to be a celebration but without her husband, feels like a chore.

Betty Martelle is an interesting woman who takes life by the horns and makes it her goal to find purpose in every day that she is still allowed to breathe. Fate will bring a new friend into her life and give her an opportunity to find a way to break through a barrier of grief to share her gift of spontaneity and finding joy in the little things.

Set on a cruise to the lush island of Maui, Caroline Adrift is an emotional friendship story of two women brought together by fate. One is adrift when it comes to finding meaning in life, and the other is determined to be a beacon of hope and teach her how to do it.

Join Kay Bratt, International Bestselling author, as she brings the latest book in The Sail Away series to life, featuring a heart-warming story of love and loss, and the gift of friendship.

My thoughts about Caroline, Adrift ~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Mark Twain once said that wrinkles indicate where smiles have been, but Caroline McClellan could only see the harshness of her wrinkles in the reflection of the window and didn't think she'd ever know another smile again. Or at least, not a genuine one."

I am a huge, huge fan of Kay Bratt's stories and love it when she has another book out. Caroline, Adrift did not disappoint. I have loved all of the stories in the Sail Away series, if nothing else than for the fact that I get to take little mini cruises with some wonderful characters. And this one will probably be one of my favorites.

Caroline is just going through the motions of life after her husband passes away. Her daughters convince her to go away on a cruise with them. She goes reluctantly, just to appease them. The people she meets on the cruise, one woman in particular, help Caroline get a new focus on life and help her figure out how she needs to move forward from where she's at now. Women friends are the best, aren't they?

Along with the great characters in the story, this cruise takes us to the beautiful island of Maui and all that glorious scenery. I felt like I was there enjoying the spectacular surroundings. And it was heartwarming being able to watch Caroline find herself and come out better on the other side, as she goes on with life after her loss.

I highly recommend Caroline, Adrift, as well as this whole series, as an escape and as a way to experience the fun of a cruise or two, or eight.

I received a copy of Caroline, Adrift from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Jessica and Dean have been on their own for a long time and find their sudden feelings have them traversing uncharted waters. Will the beauty of the dramatic landscape, endless skies and a furry friend be enough to bring these two bruised souls together and show them there is always a second chance at a new beginning?

Join Tammy L. Grace, USA Today Bestselling author, as she brings the latest book in the Sail Away series to life, featuring a heart-warming story of love and loss, and the hope that comes from a chance at a new beginning.

My thoughts about Uncharted Waters ~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"It was the last day of school, and the students raced from the building after a busy and shortened day."

I am loving all the stories in the Sail Away series but I think this one is my favorite so far and let me explain why. The characters in this story take an Alaskan cruise. I took an Alaskan cruise several years ago and it was the trip of a lifetime. I loved every bit of it and would love to do it again. The writer captured the essence, beauty, and fun of my cruise and I felt like I was back on that 'trip of a lifetime'.

The characters and their adventures were amazing as well and the story surrounding them was fulfilling and enjoyable. Jennifer is a reluctant passenger, as her coworkers gave her the cruise as a gift for her retirement. She also recently lost her mother so she's not really in the mind frame for a fun time. But she goes anyway and meets wonderful people who respect what she's going through but who also help her see the other side of things so that she can continue on with her life.

I love that I'll have this story to go back to when I'm longing to go cruising again. Uncharted Waters will always have a special place in my heart, both for the memorable characters and storyline but also for the wonderful experience of being able to sail back to Alaska.

I highly recommend Uncharted Waters, as well as this whole series, as an escape and as a way to experience the fun of a cruise or two, or eight.

I received a copy of Uncharted Waters from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Set sail to new adventures and escapes with eight best-selling authors in the exciting new Sail Away series!

Single and over sixty...

Those are the only boxes Jennifer Golden needs to check to be eligible for a ticket on the Silver Sails cruise line. She's taken a few solo trips with women her age, and she knows how to pack what she needs for a 2-week vacation in a single carry-on.

She's never done a cruise quite this long or quite this nice, but with her daughter now moved out of the house she's been renting from Jennifer for a decade, a son who's stopped talking to her, and the man she's been dating now out of the picture, Jennifer needs a break from real life.

She flies across the country only to board a ship to sail back toward Five Island Cove. Robin doesn't understand what she's doing, but Jennifer has never gotten along all that well with her daughter. Maybe she was too controlling when Robin was a teenager. Maybe she treated her worse than her other children. She doesn't know, but she knows she needs to find a way to repair the relationship with her only child still in the cove.

She doesn't expect to see Blanche Gibb on the ship, and she's shocked her college roommate and friend is even on a singles cruise. She discovers Blanche is healing after the sudden death of her husband, and she's come on the trip with her brother, Mitchell.

Jennifer has met Mitchell before, but this time, there's sparks flying between the two of them, adding to the magic of the Panama sunshine, lapping waves, and endless drinks above the deck of Sweet Sea Dreams.

She feels like she's fallen into a dream, but she still has familial relationships to repair, a friendship to nurture with Blanche, and a heart to heal before it can learn to love again...all before the ship hits land again.

Join USA Today Bestselling and Top 50 Kindle Unlimited All-Star Author Jessie Newton as she weaves another tale of friendship, romance, sisterhood, and the power of female relationships in all their forms.

My thoughts about The Sound of the Sea ~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Jennifer Golden sat at her vanity, the oval mirror showing her a woman with a pretty smile. She wore no makeup, but she'd never needed much."

I am loving this series of stories and love that I get to sail away on short little cruises with each one of them.

The Sound of the Sea features Jennifer, a single over sixty who just needs to get away—away from the life she is currently just surviving in and away from her estranged children. Taking a little time for herself may just be the reset she needs in her life. While boarding, she discovers that her college roommate and her brother are also cruising. These two just may be the distractions she needs to refocus her priorities.

This was a fun, entertaining read that I devoured as I thoroughly enjoyed my escape via this enjoyable cruise. The characters were entertaining and the scenery was beautiful. I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the Sail Away Series if they are all as much fun as this one was.

I received a copy of The Sound of the Sea from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Get ready to set sail on the trip of a lifetime! Eight amazing authors have come together to create this fun series, each book set on a cruise ship but with individual stories and characters. I have read a few of these authors, and love them already. Some are new-to-me authors but I'm excited to give their books a try.

Welcome Aboard contains the prologue to each story so the reader can get a taste of the story before it comes out. I have to admit that I am intrigued by all of them and can't wait to read all of the stories. Some of the characters have already grabbed my heart.

You can snag Welcome Aboard for free right now. Check it out and then sit back and wait in anticipation for each release, like I will be. I know it's going to be fun!
