This OR That #Giveaway Week 6 ~ Arranged by Catherine McKenzie OR She Was the Quiet One by Michele Campbell #Arranged #SheWasTheQuietOne

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves and to share some of the many books I have. It's a way for me to cull my collection and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

Catherine McKenzie is one of my 'must-read' authors. I discovered that I had two copies of Arranged on my shelves and realized at the same time that I have not read this one. Shame on me! I've loved all of her other books and I really need to read this one so I can say I've read ALL of her books!

Arranged
by Catherine McKenzie
Paperback ~ Pub date May 2012

Anne Blythe has a great life: a good job, good friends, and a potential book deal for her first novel. When it comes to finding someone to share it with, however, she just can't seem to get it right.

After yet another relationship ends, Anne comes across a business card for what she thinks is a dating service, and she pockets it just in case. When her best friend, Sarah, announces she's engaged, Anne can't help feeling envious. On an impulse, she decides to give the service a try because maybe she could use a little assistance in finding the right man. But Anne soon discovers the company isn't a dating service; it's an exclusive, and pricey, arranged marriage service. She initially rejects the idea, but the more she thinks about it -- and the company's success rate -- the more it appeals to her. After all, arranged marriages are the norm for millions of women around the world, so why wouldn't it work for her?

A few months later, Anne is travelling to a Mexican resort, where in one short weekend she will meet and marry Jack. And against all odds, it seems to be working out -- until Anne learns that Jack, and the company that arranged their marriage, are not what they seem at all.

I read this one when it came out in 2018.
It was a 5 ⭐ read for me!

She Was the Quiet One
by Michele Campbell
ARC ~ Pub date July 2018

From the author of It’s Always the Husband comes a riveting new suspense novel about privilege, power, and what happens when we let ambition take control.

For Rose Enright, enrolling in a prestigious New England boarding school is the opportunity of a lifetime. But for Rose’s vulnerable twin sister Bel, Odell Academy is a place of temptation and danger. When Bel falls in with a crowd of wild rich kids who pressure her into hazing Rose, the sisters’ relationship is shattered. Rose turns to her dorm mother, Sarah Donovan, for advice. But Bel turns to Sarah’s husband Heath, a charismatic and ambitious teacher. Is Heath trying to help Bel or take advantage of her? In a world of privilege, seduction, and manipulation, only one sister will live to tell the truth.

In a novel full of twists, turns, and dark secrets, Michele Campbell once again proves her skill at crafting intricately spun and completely compelling plots.

She Was the Quiet One by Michele Campbell ~ My Thoughts #SheWasTheQuietOne

36476218

She Was the Quiet One by Michele Campbell
Print and e-book, 352 pages
Published July 31st 2018 by St. Martin's Press

When twin sisters Rose and Bel Enright enroll in The Odell School, a prestigious New Hampshire boarding school, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. But the sisters could not be more different. The school brings out a rivalry between them that few ever knew existed. And the school itself has a dark underbelly: of privileged kids running unchecked and uninhibited; of rituals and traditions that are more sinister than they seem; of wealth and entitlement that can only lead to disaster.

For Sarah Donovan, wife of an ambitious teacher who is determined to rise through the ranks, Odell also seems like the best thing that could happen to their small family. But how well does she really know her husband? What lengths will he go to to achieve his goals? And when one dark night ends in murder, who is guilty, who knows the truth, and who has been in on it all along? She Was the Quiet One. Because murderers are almost never who you expect.

My thoughts about She Was the Quiet One ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"They locked her in the infirmary and took away her phone and anything she might use to harm herself—or someone else."

This is a book that is going to grab you from the the very first page and will keep you turning the pages until you get to the exciting ending. I devoured this book and loved every minute of it's suspense and mystery.

The story is riveting and scary, with plenty of evilnessso much evil and conniving going on. At the same time you have to admire the characters who are strong when they need to be.

I've read one other book by this author and her stories are amazing. I highly recommend her books and I'll definitely read her again.

I received an ARC of She Was the Quiet One from Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? July 23, 2018

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Well, it's back to work for me today after 6 weeks off after my knee surgery and then a week's vacation last week. I was able to spend a week in Colorado and got to see some family members. It was a pretty low key vacation for me as I tried to take it easy on my knee. We had wonderful hosts and I felt very pampered.

We drove up to Estes Park one day and visited the beautiful Stanley Hotel. This hotel was Stephen King's inspiration for The Shining. I loved that book and the movie! And yes, we did walk through the hedge maze.

We also walked through the Benson Sculpture Garden in Loveland—at least part of it anyway—it's covers a huge area. The picture below is me playing Ring Around the Rosie with my new, little friends. 😁

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!

I just have to say that the month of June has been such an off month for me as far as my blog, and my life, goes. First my knee surgery at the beginning of the month and then at the end of June, I ended up back in the hospital with blood clots in both lungs. They were able to resolve the issue fairly quickly but now I have to be on blood thinners for a year. It was very scary and will be for me for the next year. I've been a pretty healthy person so this is so outside my normal.

But then, there is something positive coming up. I'm taking a road trip to Colorado next week! I got the okay from my doctor to take that long of a car drive, as long as I stop frequently to get out and walk. We have family living in Colorado so we'll be able to see some of them while we're there. And then when I get back from that, it's back to work for me. Reality hits!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!
