Lori Verni-Fogarsi, Her Voices, and a Slew of Giveaways!!

Yesterday, I posted my thoughts about Unexpecting, Lori's newest novel. Loved it! I also included an excerpt so you can take a look at the wonderfulness of her writing. You can find it all here.

Today, Lori is here answering my 'voices' question. I love her response! When you are done reading about how her mind works, check out all the giveaways at the bottom of the post ~ she is so very generous!

So Lori, I have heard other authors say that they 'hear voices in their head' and that is how they write their books: the characters are telling their stories. Not being a writer myself, that concept has always intrigued me.

When some people hear voices, we get them medical attention, others end up becoming writers. Does this happen to you? How do you come up with your stories?

I have to laugh, because both the main character in my novel, "Momnesia" and myself in real life, have a tendency to argue with "The Two Little Guys Inside My Head!" They're not like the typical devil versus angel guys... they're more like two attorneys who argue the various aspects of a situation whenever there's a decision to be made! (Please do not show up with a straight jacket, or I'll let them come after you!)
As for writing my books, here is what tends to happen: I come up with a main idea and then it just takes on a life of its own. For example, with "Unexpecting," I thought about what a nightmare if would be if, after all the effort I've put into not having additional children with my second husband AND making sure that none of our four kids have a child at too young an age, if we somehow ended up raising another baby "from scratch" anyway?
In the beginning, I had no idea how such a thing could transpire, but once I got started with Alexandra showing up at the door unexpectedly, everything just kind of "happened!" There were many times during the editing process that I thought to myself, "I don't even remember writing this... where do I come up with this stuff?"
"Unexpecting" ended up being a big project of personal growth for me. It forced me to examine how I would REALLY feel about a new baby and how I would handle various crises with my children or husband should they ever come up. Honestly, at times it was so hard that I had to set aside writing for weeks at a time so I could come to terms with things. But in the end, I'm really happy with the way the book turned out and I feel really good about the things I learned about myself and human nature along the way.
