Kindle Edition, 318 pages

Abandoned by his mother when he was young, twenty-two-year-old Rave Wayne knows all about loss. That doesn’t mean he’s used to it. After he’s dumped by the girlfriend he assumed he’d spend his life with, Rave is longing more than ever to connect.
Then, as if by miracle, he receives an invitation from his grandfather, a man he thought was long gone, to come for a visit in rural Tennessee. Loyal, honest, and loving, dear old Tuck is everything Rave could have hoped for. He’s family. Soon, Rave finds himself falling for a down-to-earth local girl, and he thinks his life is finally coming together.
But the past isn’t through with Rave. When his mother returns after many long years, looking to reconcile the terrible mistakes that once defined her, Rave struggles to put together the unsettled pieces of his heart. Will this once-estranged family be able to come together to understand the meaning of unconditional love, the fragile bonds of family, and the healing power of letting go?
My thoughts about Something Like Family ~~
First line—"As an old man, there were certain things Tuck Wayne could no longer do. He couldn't read the paper without bifocals, he could no longer please a woman, and he couldn't eat the fire-spicy food he loved. As far as regrets went, he—like all men coming to the end of their lives—he had some."
Something Like Family is a wonderful story full of broken and flawed characters but I came to love those folks and wanted them all to heal and to be happy. Their road to healing is a long, hard road though.
Rave, for one, had a very tough childhood, being left on his own at a young age. Finding family in Tuck was something he was not expecting, let alone discovering all of the people who were a part of Tuck's life. Tuck is a old guy with his own set of heartache and troubles but he really is a very lovable character who has gone through some hard times. Can the two of them come together and start the healing?
Like I said, I love the characters in this story and I also love the complexity of the issues that got them to where they are today. But most of all, I love the caring, compassion, and love that comes from taking chances and opening up your heart to the idea of family.
I received a copy of this book from Goodreads and am voluntarily reviewing it.
