What She Didn't See

What She Didn’t See by Heather Wynter
Publication date: February 28th 2020
Genres: Adult, Suspense, Thriller

An American tourist in Rome. A secret service agent on vacation. An international assassin… What could go wrong?

Gracie Colby and Lena Boyd are wrapping up the tour of Italy Lena has planned her whole life.

Luke Barnes, a Secret Service Agent, is on vacation in Rome.

Before she knows what happened to her, her friend is dead, and Gracie finds herself swept into a whirlwind of danger, intrigue, and international forces conspiring to destroy her. Teaming up with Luke to survive, Gracie is forced to question herself and decide if she is capable of outrunning the assassin before he can get to them.

Excerpt

He set off across the street, and she followed, not wanting to be alone in this city of death. Her heel crunched in glass fragments. He held up the tape that designated this a crime scene, and she ducked under it. It was all pretend. She saw herself doing everything, looking like an actor on a cop show.

The car riddled with bullet holes belonged to the movie too. The prop crew had put that tire there for her to cower behind for safety from the gunfire. She peered down at the space where she’d taken shelter from the danger, the place where Lena had pushed her to protect her when the shooting started.

She gulped down the lump in her throat. The last thing Lena did in this life was save her. She didn’t save herself. She was too thoughtful for that. While Grace was thinking about dragging Lena back home to start their lives as adults, Lena was saving her from that … that …

She looked up to find Luke inspecting her. Could he see what a terrible friend she had been? Had Lena’s sacrifice left visible scars on her skin?

“What do you know about the shooter?” she asked to distract them both.

Release Day! This Won't End Well by Camille Pagán ~ My Thoughts #ThisWon'tEndWell #TallPoppy #NetGalley

Happy Release Day!

51091002. sx318 sy475

Congrats Camille
on the release today of
This Won't End Well!

This Won't End Well by Camille Pagán
Print and e-book. 300 pages
Published February 25th 2020 by Lake Union Publishing

An ingeniously witty novel about the risks—and rewards—of opening your life to new people by Amazon Charts bestselling author Camille Pagán.

No new people: that’s Annie Mercer’s vow. It’s bad enough that her boss sabotaged her chemistry career and her best friend tried to cure her with crystals. But after her fiancé, Jon, asks for space while he’s gallivanting around Paris, Annie decides she needs space too—from everyone.

Yet when Harper moves in next door, Annie can’t help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman. And if keeping Harper safe requires teaming up with Mo, a maddeningly optimistic amateur detective, who is she to mind her own business?

Soon Annie has let not one but two new people into her life. Then Jon reappears—and he wants her to join him in France. She’s pretty sure letting anyone get close won’t end well. So she must decide: Is another shot at happiness worth the risk?

My thoughts about This Won't End Well ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Dear Jon. Hello seems like such an innocuous word, but it's really a portal to loss."

Nothing in Annie's life is going well—her job tanked, her best friend had flaked, and now her fiancé left the country. That's it! She's swearing off new people and is just going to focus on getting her life back on track. She doesn't have time to invest in getting to know someone new.

But maybe that's not what life has in store for her. Maybe she is going to have to open her mind and her heart to the possibilities.

This Won't End Well is an interesting, fun look at relationships, friends, love, and sticking up for what's right. I loved every word and loved watching Annie figure out what's important in her life. Camille has written another wonderful novel that is sure to be a bestseller! Check it out!

I received an ARC of This Won't End Well from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion of the book.

Winter Storms

Winter Storms by Elin Hilderbrand
Series: Winter #3
Hardcover, 246 pages
Published October 4th 2016 by Little, Brown and Company

Gather under the mistletoe for one last round of caroling with the Quinn family in this heartwarming conclusion to Elin Hilderbrand's bestselling Winter Street Trilogy.

Some of the stormy weather of the past few seasons seems to have finally lifted for the Quinns. After a year apart, and an ill-fated affair with the Winter Street Inn's old Santa Claus, Mitzi has returned to rule the roost; Patrick is about to be released from prison; Kevin has a successful new business and is finally ready to tie the knot with Isabelle; and best of all, there's hopeful news about Bart, who has been captured by enemy forces in Afghanistan.

That doesn't mean there aren't a few dark clouds on the horizon. Kelley has recently survived a health scare; Jennifer can't quite shake her addiction to the drugs she used as a crutch while Patrick was in jail; and Ava still can't decide between the two lovers that she's been juggling with limited success. However, if there's one holiday that brings the Quinn family together to give thanks for the good times, it's Christmas. And this year promises to be a celebration unlike any other as the Quinns prepare to host Kevin and Isabelle's wedding at the inn. But as the special day approaches, a historic once-in-a-century blizzard bears down on Nantucket, threatening to keep the Quinns away from the place--and the people--they love most. Before the snow clears, the Quinns will have to survive enough upheavals to send anyone running for the spiked eggnog, in this touching novel that proves that when the holidays roll around, you can always go home again.

Something hasn’t been right at the roadside Sun Down Motel for a very long time, and Carly Kirk is about to find out why in this chilling new novel from the USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of The Broken Girls.

Upstate New York, 1982. Viv Delaney wants to move to New York City, and to help pay for it she takes a job as the night clerk at the Sun Down Motel in Fell, New York. But something isnʼt right at the motel, something haunting and scary.

Upstate New York, 2017. Carly Kirk has never been able to let go of the story of her aunt Viv, who mysteriously disappeared from the Sun Down before she was born. She decides to move to Fell and visit the motel, where she quickly learns that nothing has changed since 1982. And she soon finds herself ensnared in the same mysteries that claimed her aunt.

My thoughts about The Sun Down Motel ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"The night it all ended, Vivian was alone."

My first thought when I finished binge-reading this book was "Wow! Just wow!!" The author pulled me into this amazing story and I couldn't stop. I devoured it!

This book has it all—murder, an age-old mystery, a creepy ghost story, and a little bit of romance Or maybe just an attraction, who knows what will happen when there are ghosts involved.

Simone's stories are just getting better and better with each book she writes. I'm super excited to see what she has coming next. But in the mean time, I can't recommend this book enough! It was a thrilling page-turner that I can't get out of my mind. Pick it up! You will not be disappointed, I promise.

I received an ARC of The Sun Down Motel from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion of the book.

Release Day! A Light Last Seen by Grace Greene ~ My Thoughts #ALightLastSeen

Release Day!

50666082

Congrats Grace
on the release today of
A Light Last Seen!

A Light Last Seen by Grace Greene
320 pages
Published February 11th 2020 by Kersey Creek Books

Chasing happiness and finding joy are two very different things as Jaynie Highsmith is discovering. Can she give up searching for the one and reclaim the other? Or is she fated to repeat the mistakes her mother made?

Jaynie Highsmith grew up in Cub Creek on Hope Road, the irony of which the name, Hope never failed to escape her. After a difficult childhood, she is desperate to leave her hometown and her unpleasant memories behind her and make a new life. She is determined to be the best version of herself she can create, but when she takes off she also leaves and forgets important parts of her past and herself.

The new life is everything she wants, or so she thinks until she finds herself repeating the same mistakes her mother made. Is Jaynie destined for unhappiness? Is it like mother, like daughter? Did running away only delay the unhappiness she is feels destined for?

Seventeen years after leaving home, Jaynie needs a new fresh start and returning to Cub Creek is necessary, but she is determined that the visit will be as short as possible and then she'll be out and free again. However, a longer stay may be vital to her future because if she has any hope of changing her destiny, Jaynie must reconcile the past she turned her back on with her present.

My thoughts about A Light Last Seen ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Time and memories are fluid. Just when you think the artifacts of your past have been carefully packed always and left securely behind, the ghosts of themthe memoriesgrab you like quicksand and suck you right back into what you wanted to forget. The present is never free of the past."

This is such an amazingly beautiful story about family, resilience, acceptance, forgiveness, growth, and love. As with all of Grace's stories, I was immediately swept up in the world she created and became immersed in Jayne's life.

Jayne had a rough life growing up, with a mother who was not always there for her. So when she had a chance to get out of there, she took it. Years later, she has to come back home and relive some of those bad memories. But she also discovers some of the good from that time as well.

A Light Last Seen captured my heart from the very first lines and let me escape my life for a little bit. I loved everything about this book and loved watching Jayne work through her past to find happiness in her present.

Thank you to Grace Greene for the ARC of A Light Last Seen. This is my honest opinion of the book.
