This OR That Giveaway № 59 ~ The Favorite Daughter by Patti Callahan Henry OR Here I Go Again by Jen Lancaster #HereIGoAgain #TheFavoriteDaughter

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to cull my collection and to share some of the many books I have. I get to clear off some of my shelves to make room for more books and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

The Favorite Daughter
by Patti Callahan Henry
Paperback ~ Pub date June 2019

Ten years ago, Lena Donohue experienced a wedding-day betrayal so painful that she fled the small town of Watersend, South Carolina, and reinvented herself in New York City. Though now a freelance travel writer, the one place she rarely goes is home--until she learns of her dad's failing health.

Returning to Watersend means seeing the sister she has avoided for a decade and the brother who runs the family's Irish pub and has borne the burden of his sisters' rift. While Alzheimer's slowly steals their father's memories, the siblings rush to preserve his life in stories and in photographs. As his secret past brings Lena's own childhood into focus, it sends her on a journey to discover the true meaning of home.

Here I Go Again
by Jen Lancaster
Paperback ~ Published January 2013

Hilarious new fiction from the New York Times bestselling author of Bitter Is the New Black and If You Were Here.

Twenty years after ruling the halls of her suburban Chicago high school, Lissy Ryder doesn't understand why her glory days ended. Back then, she was worshipped...beloved...feared. Present day, not so much. She's been pink-slipped from her high-paying job, dumped by her husband, and kicked out of her condo. Now, at thirty-seven, she's struggling to start a business out of her parents' garage and sleeping under the hair-band posters in her old bedroom.

Lissy finally realizes karma is the only bitch bigger than she was. Her present is miserable because of her past. But it's not like she can go back in time and change who she was...or can she?

  1. I don't normally participate in reading challenges or similar things I guess because I don't want to rush or don't want to make something I enjoy feel like a burden to complete. The closest I came to something like that was in 2020, where I read one book after another - no idea how many I read that year - but it was my way of coping. I had a lot of trauma, grief, change & stress starting back mid-2019 that I don't know I could have made it through (still working on it 2 years later) without a means to safely escape from my reality. My real reading challenge is expanding outside of my comfort zone by reading things I wouldn't have thought to or tried before. Growth is a challenge. Thanks Susan for interesting questions.

    1. Glad you are liking the questions, Nancy. I found myself the opposite of you in 2020. I couldn't focus and my reading suffered. I binge-watched more shows that year instead of reading. Somewhere along the line, I got my reading mojo back.

  2. I do not participate in blog reading challenges. I do belong to a monthly in-person book club.

    1. At one time, I was in three book clubs. Eventually, I quit 2 of them. The last one ,which I started with two other friends and had 7 members, quit meeting during COVID and we just never started up again. I think that one was more of a 'social' club than a book club, which was okay. We needed that. Just sad that we haven't resurrected it yet.

  4. I’m a member of 4 book clubs, so along with my personal reading choices, I don’t need the prompt to meet a challenge.

    1. Four? That is commendable. Sometimes book club books are a bit tough to get through, if they're not your usual. But what a way to broaden your reading world!

  5. I challenge myself with the Goodreads Challenge, setting my own goal. I am also part of a fun group challenge on Facebook and have been for several years. Those, along with the review books I am committed to keep me busy enough. I don't need anymore challenges in my life.

  6. I don't know where the rest of my comment went! LOL! I had typed: I have done the GoodReads challenge the past couple of years. But didn't reach my goal last year, and this year isn't looking too promising yet either. It's time to get stricter with myself...or lower my expectations!

    1. Don't stress about not meeting the goal that you set for yourself. Easier said than done, I know. I have been know to change my goal if I'm seeing that it's unattainable. Don't need the pressure. :)
