And so this book review starts the new chapter in the life of Kim Long—blogger, new novelist, and soon to be bride. I have loved Kim since I first met her in Blogger Girl and have watched her mature and grow as her life changes. 

Kim finds herself struggling with all the demands on her right now, the wedding that is not planning itself and the novel that is not coming along like she would like. And she's got deadlines for both! But she still has her wonderful, quirky group of friends who help ground her when she starts spiraling out of control and loses all confidence in herself and her relationship with her fiancé.

I just absolutely loved Bridal Girl, and adore this whole series. This is chick-lit at its best! And I can't help wondering if there will be more books coming, because in real life, the story doesn't end with a wedding. What da'y say, Meredith?

My thoughts about The Boyfriend Swap ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"If asked to choose between a world without music and one without my mother, the choice would be a no-brainer—I'd give up music. I might feel dead inside, without a song to sing or a beat to dance to, but at least my mom would be there to comfort me. The decision was easy, but sometimes, like now, when she put on her matchmaking cap, I was tempted to change my answer."

The Boyfriend Swap is full of scenarios that we have all found ourselves in at one time or another—awkward family Christmases, parents who typically don't approve of our current mate, boyfriends who just don't seem to fit into the family dynamics. Robyn and Sydney are dreading their upcoming Christmas trips back home with their boyfriends and all the family drama that will ensue. Why not just swap boyfriends for the holiday? Sounds like a great plan. Until it's not.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Boyfriend Swap and loved every bit of it! I have read quite a few of Meredith's books already and this one really stood out for me as just a bit different from her previous ones. The characters are very likable and real, the storyline felt unique to me, and I found myself very wrapped up in the lives of Robyn and Sydney.

Not that all those things hadn't happened in her other books. It just seemed to me that Meredith took her writing to a new level with this story. I really loved reading this book and I'm excited for what will come next from this author.

And it's a Christmas story! How can you not love that?

My thoughts about Kim vs. the Mean Girl ~~

First line—"October 2000. Don't do it, Charlie! When I flipped the page, it became clear Charlie was going to do it."

I loved Meredith's other books, Blogger Girl and Novelista Girl, and getting to know Kim and her arch-enemy Hannah. Kim vs. The Mean Girl takes us back to their high school days and give us a look at their history and why they have this animosity towards each other.

The story takes place in 2000 so there are a lot of references to the culture of that time; songs, movies, television shows, that kind of thing. It was like a trip down memory lane for me and a reminder of what high school was like, all the good times, along with some of the bad.

This book is listed as Teen and Young Adult and it will definitely appeal to that age group. Set in a high school, it covers a lot of the issues that teens are dealing with; friendships, rivalries, fitting in, young love. It was also very enjoyable for me to read as well and I am way past that teen phase in my life. I had come to know and love the characters from the previous books and it was great to revisit them again. Kim vs. The Mean Girl is a well written, fun story that can be enjoyed by all.

My thoughts about Novelista Girl ~~

I read and loved Blogger Girl when it came out. You can read my thoughts here. And I love it when authors write sequels to books that I love. 

One of the main reasons I love this series, besides the fact that the books are about a blogger and I can relate to that so much, is the other fact that there were such great characters in Blogger Girl and now with Novelista Girl, I get to revisit them and catch up on their lives. 

Kimberly's life is going pretty well. She is with the man of her dreams, her best friends have found the loves of their lives, and she has written a book that she is now trying to get published. What could go wrong? Let me tell you, there is plenty of drama in this book as one thing after another starts to go wrong for Kim. 

I went on an emotional rollercoaster ride with Kimberly as she has boyfriend issues, best friend issues, issues with her high school nemesis, and as she experiences the ups and downs of her book publishing journey. I was ecstatic when she was on top of the world and was teary eyed and down when things were not so good. Meredith was able to make me feel all the feels. 

Novelista Girl is another wonderful, genuine chick-lit story that drew me in and allowed me another fun escape to Kimberly's world. I really hope to get to go back there soon!

My thoughts about How Do You Know? ~~

'THANK GOD I WAXED.' 

Okay, that's the first line of How Do You Know? Isn't that a great first line? How could you just NOT want to keep reading when it starts like that? It made me laugh.

'"I have no idea how I managed to lose my balance while wearing flats but I am fine." I brush the loose dirt off my dress and try not to care that I'm wearing a Spider Man bandage.'

And then she's wearing a Spider Man band-aid? I love this woman! I would so wear one too. I knew right away that this was going to be a character I was going to enjoy and a story that I would not want to put down.

Maggie is celebrating her 39th birthday. She has one year until she turns the big 4-0. And in her mind, she is supposed to have 'made it' by 40. She feels like she hasn't 'made it' and she starts to question everything in her life. She decides she needs to make some changes and those ideas back fire on her.

'Forty is like a train approaching me at warp speed while my shoelace is caught in the track.'

She spends the next 365 days trying to figure out who and what makes her happy.

'Am I a has-been? Am I past my prime?'

She has plenty of support and get lots of advice from her family and friends. Some give more advice than she wants or needs. But those were the characters I enjoyed the most - they really told Maggie what's what. Gotta love Aunt Helen!

'Some say peer pressure is the biggest motivator for people to do things they aren't sure they want to do. I say those people have never met my Aunt Helen.'

How Do You Know? was such a treat to read. I enjoyed every bit of this well written, funny, insightful story.

I have to be honest here. I am a tad past 40 (okay, maybe a bit more than a tad, if I'm completely honest) and I remember worrying about hitting that number. But you know what? It's just a number. And it doesn't really mean anything. And.... I don't act my age. Yikes, that would be bad!

'... my yourthful spirit has not deserted me with the cessation of my thirties, and there is not a damn thing wrong with that.'

And this is book #1 in the Seeking Happily Ever After Series. I have no idea what the rest of the series has in store for us.

She secures much inspiration from her day job as a hard-working trademark paralegal and her still single (but looking) status.

My thoughts about Blogger Girl ~~

Loved it! I could really relate to the main character, book blogger Kimberly Long since, well, I am a book blogger too. So I loved that part of the story. And I loved the way that Meredith portrayed the hard work that goes into being a successful blogger. But I loved the overall story-line too.

'Rob's recent takeover of a high-profile litigation was definitely getting in the way of my blogging.' 

Boy, I know how that feels. It's rough when the 'real' job gets in the way of blogging!

Blogger Girl is chick-lit at it's best. There's the high school popular girl, who was a sworn enemy, and who is now trying to be friends, mainly because she wants something; the potential romantic involvement and all that that entails; and the best friends who are always there for each other, no matter what. 

"What do most chick lit books have in common?" she asked. Raising her hand, Bridget said, "I know! I know! Designer shoes, lots of cocktails and dating stories from hell."

I loved being a part of Kim's world. She is a spunky gal who thinks she is content with her life until Nicholas starts to notice her. She is rather insecure and doesn't understand what he could ever see in her. And then there is the 'enemy' from high school, Hannah. She wants something from Kim but Kim can't forget about the clashes they had in school.

And I loved the ending of the story. Kim does what any chick-lit character would do. And why not? (no spoiler here, you will have to read Blogger Girl to find out what I am talking about, but it is great!)

This was a wonderful, well written story that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was fun! It was easy to read! It was the first book I have read by Meredith but it won't be my last.

And then, one last quote that really spoke to me. Since I am short too, I loved this line! 

'I would be the first to admit that I drew attention to my chest since, being so short, I needed to give people a reason to look down far enough to see me.'
