Release Day: Pulled Within by Marni Mann

Pulled Within

Pulled Within by Marni Mann
Series: Bar Harbor #2
Kindle Edition, 230 pages
Expected publication: September 12th 2014 by Booktrope Editions

Storms can't last forever…can they?

For five long years, Rae Ryan has lived in a storm over which she has no control. Little by little, everything has been taken away from her—her job, her relationship, her best friend and her home. Plagued by nightmares and a terrible family secret, she carries her scars as much on the inside as she does on the outside.

Hart Booker, another disappointment from her past, returns to Bar Harbor and shelters her from the rain. He reminds Rae that forgiveness is possible, happiness can be found on the other side of darkness, and beauty rests beneath her scars. But a sinister figure lingering in the background seems determined to pull Rae back into a past she’s been trying to outrun. Can she survive the storm and become part of the light she so desperately desires? Or is she destined to remain Pulled Within?

Recommended for mature audiences due to explicit language, sexual abuse, disturbing situations, and drug use.

My thoughts about Pulled Within ~~
(originally posted September 5th)

I loved book #1 of this series and I was very happy to be able to go back to Bar Harbor and the people I met there. Pulled Within contains some of the characters that we came to know in Pulled Beneath but they are side characters in this second book. This story centers around Rae, who is struggling with her own personal demons and has had a very tough life.

I enjoyed this story just as much as the previous one in the series but this one has a much edgier feel to it. Rae's life the past five years has been pretty rough. She 's a good friend and provides support to her best friend after he checks himself into rehab, even ad she struggles with problems and drug issues herself. Shhe just wants to forget the trauma of her past.

This series shows us two completely different view points of people living in the same community. There are those who seem to have it all and everything comes fairly easy to them. Then there are those, like Rae, who can never seem to get a break and have a really tough time getting by day to day.

And then there's, Hart, the love of her young life, who hows up in town again after disappearing without a word years ago. The chemistry is still there but can she ever forgive him? And does she even want to? Or is he there to help her heal?

Pulled Beneath
Bar Harbor #1

I read Pulled Beneath (Bar Harbor #1) and loved it. The story and characters completely captivated me. My thoughts are here, originally posted May 2014.

About the author

Best-selling Author Marni Mann knew she was going to be a writer since middle school. While other girls her age were daydreaming about teenage pop stars, Mann was fantasizing about penning her first novel. She crafts sexy, titillating stories that weave together her love of darkness, mystery, passion, and human emotion.

A New Englander at heart, she now lives in Sarasota, Florida with her husband and their two dogs who subsequently have been characters in her books. When she's not nose deep in her laptop working on her next novel, she's scouring for chocolate, sipping wine, traveling to new locations, and devouring fabulous books.

On Tour: Pulled Beneath by Marni Mann

Pulled Beneath by Marni Mann
Paperback, 244 pages
Published March 18th 2014 by Booktrope Editions

What happens when you uncover years of secrets and find out everything you thought to be true was a lie?

Drew Stevens finds her world turned upside down when her parents are brutally murdered. Soon after, she learns she inherited a property in Bar Harbor, Maine, from recently deceased grandparents that she believed had died when she was a baby.

Drew travels north to settle her grandparents’ estate, but finds more questions than answers as the truth starts unraveling. What she didn't expect to find was Saint, whose reputation is as tumultuous as his past. But the very thing that brings them together is the same thing that keeps them emotionally caged.

With Saint's scars so deep and Drew's so fresh, can the pair heal from their painful wounds or will they be pulled beneath the darkness of their pasts?

My thoughts about Pulled Beneath ~~

Okay, so the prologue of this story was enough to entice me to dive into this book. By the time I finished reading those few pages and find out that Drew's parents had been murdered, I knew I had to keep going. And the author has such a flowing way with her words that it was very easy to get lost in Drew's world.

And then Drew discovers that nothing in her world is what she believed it to be.
'I needed to touch the house, to be in the presence of this secret that my mom had withheld my whole life.'
She meets the residents of Bar Harbor, Maine when she goes to check out the house that her grandparents left her, grandparents she was told were dead. She comes to know the people who knew her mother and who might be able to give her some answers. But some of them are struggling in their own lives.
'I was drawn to whatever was broken in him, probably in the same way he was drawn to what was broken in me.'
Pulled Beneath is a continuous story of secrets, discovery, and nothing and no one being what they appeared to be. The twists and turns just never end!

And... the story continues with Pulled Within being released this summer. I am excited to take another trip to Bar Harbor, Maine and to learn more about the wonderful people in this community.
