Book Spotlight #Giveaway! Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews #SunsetBeach

I have sooooo many books! The Book Spotlight Giveaway feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves, to share some of the many books I have, and to give someone else the opportunity to enjoy these treasures.

I love Mary Kay Andrews' stories. I read this one when it came out in 2019 and gave it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! You can read my thoughts here

And since winter has arrived in South Dakota (UGH!!), I thought it would be good to feature a summer, beachy book. Here is the view from our front door earlier this week. And this is BEFORE the 2-5 inches of new snow they are predicting for this weekend. We'll see.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews
ARC, 432 pages
Published May 7th 2019 by St. Martin's Press

Pull up a lounge chair and have a cocktail at Sunset Beach – it comes with a twist.

Drue Campbell’s life is adrift. Out of a job and down on her luck, life doesn’t seem to be getting any better when her estranged father, Brice Campbell, a flamboyant personal injury attorney, shows up at her mother’s funeral after a twenty-year absence. Worse, he’s remarried – to Drue’s eighth grade frenemy, Wendy, now his office manager. And they’re offering her a job.

It seems like the job from hell, but the offer is sweetened by the news of her inheritance – her grandparents’ beach bungalow in the sleepy town of Sunset Beach, a charming but storm-damaged eyesore now surrounded by waterfront McMansions.

With no other prospects, Drue begrudgingly joins the firm, spending her days screening out the grifters whose phone calls flood the law office. Working with Wendy is no picnic either. But when a suspicious death at an exclusive beach resort nearby exposes possible corruption at her father’s firm, she goes from unwilling cubicle rat to unwitting investigator, and is drawn into a case that may – or may not – involve her father. With an office romance building, a decades-old missing persons case re-opened, and a cottage in rehab, one thing is for sure at Sunset Beach: there’s a storm on the horizon.

Sunset Beach is a compelling ride, full of Mary Kay Andrews' signature wit, heart, and charm.

My thoughts about Sunset Beach ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line—"Drue turned the key in the ignition and the white Bronco's engine gave a dispirited cough, and then nothing."

I have always been a huge, huge fan of Mary Kay Andrews and have loved all of her beach stories. I know it's summertime when I have one of her books on my TBR list.

Sunset Beach, like all of MKA's other books, is full of beach, sand, water, and wonderful characters. The thing that is different about this story though, is the mystery that the author wove into her beach story this time.

I loved Drue's tenacity and perseverance when it came to getting to the bottom of things. I really hope that this was just the beginning of our glimpse into Drue's life and that Mary Kay has more mysteries for her to solve.

This story has it all—a nice beachy read with a captivating mystery thrown in for good measure.

'I'm only one woman, you know. I can solve only one mystery at a time.'

I received an ARC of Sunset Beach from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? May 6, 2019

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

I am totally loving the warm, sunny weather. And then the evenings cool off―perfect for a little fire pit action.

I didn't get much reading done this past weekend though. We are working on last minute touches to the house and have cleaning on the agenda, preparing for a visit from my mother-in-law. We invited her up for Mother's Day, which also happens to be her 88th birthday. So there will be a lot of family time but not much reading time, I'm afraid. And I seem to have a ton of review books coming up. Yikes!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!

I had a super busy weekend and got very little reading done. Friday, I took the day off and we went had lunch at school with our 10 yo grandson. Yay for school hot lunch! 😉 Then we ended up bringing his 2 yo sister home so they could work on getting their house ready to put on the market. After I took her home on Saturday, I went to a library event with my daughter and DIL.

We heard Caroline Fraser talk about her Pulitzer Prize winning biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Prairie Fires. Since we live in the middle of the Little House on the Prairies settings, it was interesting to get her perspective on Wilder's life. On Saturday night we went to the movie, The Public, starring Emilio Estevez and Alec Baldwin. It was very good, especially for those of us who have worked in public libraries. So much of the movie was relate-able. The theater full of librarians were whooping, laughing, and applauding throughout the movie!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!

We had beautiful weather over the holiday weekend. Since Sunday was Easter and today is my birthday, most of the family got together to celebrate the two events—we were only missing a few of the grands. Saturday was exceptionally nice and I was able to get some patio reading in. I loved it and I'm looking forward to doing more of that in the future, although today is supposed to be rainy. I'm kinda okay with that though since the rain helps wash away the winter dirtiness.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!
