The sensationalism shown on television can only be topped the the drama that happens behind the camera. After being fired from her job in Los Angeles, Charlene “Charley” Thomas moves to sizzling Miami and begins working as a news director at a local television station.
While getting used to her new gig, Charley wakes up to the fact that her station manager, Jonathan Lefton, is the boss from hell who will do anything for a story no matter who gets hurt in the process. When nude photos of noon anchor, Miranda Andrews, are discovered in the men’s room of a Key West bar, all hell breaks loose. They end up on Lefton’s desk and soon he promotes her over the main anchor, sparking off a firestorm. Miranda’s quickly thrown into the mix and assigned special reports.
Charley finds herself overseeing an investigation that could shine light on the guilt of a dirty cop. Real life begins to mimic the drama of broadcast news when station personalities face life and death all for ratings and Emmys!
I was an intern at CNN in NYC when they first started in1985 before I landed my first job in Tyler, Texas as a reporter. After Texas, I went to KLAS, Las Vegas where I was a news producer. I moved on to WGGB Springfield MA and then to WTNH New Haven, CT where I won my first Emmy. I joined WSVN, Miami in 1991 as a senior producer. I reformatted the local evening news/entertainment show,”7:30” which consistently beat “ET” in the ratings. I returned to the front of the camera in 1995 at WPLG as their Style Reporter. In addition, I have worked for Fox News Channel as a Features Reporter and the All News Channel as Weekend Anchor.

My thoughts about Viewer Discretion Advised ~~
Whew! I need to catch my breath after reading this book. Viewer Discretion Advised is set in a television newsroom which I always imagine and assume is super crazy with deadlines and tons of activity everywhere. The author does a great job in capturing that feeling in this story. I found myself, not necessarily reading fast, but really feeling the craziness and stress that a newsroom would have. Cindy obviously knows what she is writing about.
This book really has it all - the newsroom stress, best friends, romance, murder, a potentially creepy guy who may or may not have committed murder and a stripper, er, I mean dancer. There is a lot going on in this story but that didn't make it complicated. The story-line was easy to follow but it was a hard book to put down. I found myself wanting to read 'just one more chapter'.
So, if you are looking for a fast paced, sometimes intense story with some quirky characters, you really will want to read Viewer Discretion Advised. It has it all!
Okay, so Charley's favorite candy is M&Ms and we find her eating them throughout the book. I love them too. And guess what? Cindy included a bag of M&Ms for me when she sent me her book!
