Mrs. Perfect
by Jane Porter
Paperback ~ Published May 2008

As a young California girl growing up in a blue collar neighborhood, Taylor Young dreamed of being popular, beautiful, and acquiring a wardrobe to die for. Not to mention marrying a handsome, successful man and living happily ever after in a gorgeous house with three wonderful children. Now, at 36, Taylor has reached the pinnacle of her dreams, but is it all about to unravel?

As the new school year approaches, Taylor prepares herself for playing the perfect alpha organizing class activities, fund-raising, and chairing the school auction. But the horror! Her archrival, bohemian mom Marta Zinsser, is named Head Room Mom of Taylor's daughter's fifth grade class. As tensions rise at committee meetings and school activities, the two rivals seem to be destined for a final confrontation.

But as Taylor plans her next move, she is floored by a more serious blow at home-her husband has been secretly unemployed for the past six months. With her posh lifestyle crumbling, Taylor struggles to maintain her alpha image -- but could Marta, who cares little about appearances, be her only true friend?

The Sunday Potluck Club
by Melissa Storm
Paperback ~ Published March 2020

New friends can be found in unexpected places. For Bridget and Amy, that place was the cancer ward of an Anchorage hospital. Now, as each struggles to overcome loss, they lean on each other for support—sharing suppers, laughter and tears.

Bridget and Amy aren’t about to let hardship knock them down—Bridget plans to return to her veterinarian school studies, Amy to her position as a second-grade teacher—but neither feels quite ready. And so the Sunday Potluck Club is born, a way for Bridget, Amy, and other women who have lost a loved one to find solace and understanding. Savoring favorite dishes while sharing memories and the comfort of connection, the members of the Sunday Potluck Club nourish body and soul.

As weeks go by and the group grows in unforeseen ways, both Bridget and Amy are inspired to find greater purpose. Amy reaches out to a student whose father bravely faces his own struggle. Bridget volunteers at the local animal shelter, rehabilitating dogs whose unconditional love will bring others a chance to heal. And with the help of a very special man, Amy is realizing that there’s always room at the table for love and rekindled joy.

What's the weather like where you are at?

We are totally into winter here. In the last week we've had over 9 inches of snow, it's been bitterly cold, and today we are under a blizzard warning. And those south of us have gotten slammed ever harder than we have here. December was so mild so I guess we were due, but I'm over it already. Maybe I can live vicariously through someone else's nice weather. Let me know whatcha got! I want my patio time back!

  4. Today is cold. Not as cold as other parts of the country, and just a dusting of snow instead of mountains of it like others have. It's in the mid-20s, which is cold for here at Maryland's eastern shore.
