This OR That #Giveaway Week 19 ~ All Summer Long by Dorothea Benton Frank OR Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner #AllSummerLong #GoodnightNobody

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves and to share some of the many books I have. It's a way for me to cull my collection and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

I've got a great summer beach read up first. I read and reviewed this when it came out in 2017. You absolutely can't go wrong with a beach read by DBF!

All Summer Long
by Dorothea Benton Frank
Paperback ~ Pub date March 2017

Filled with her trademark wit, poignant themes, and rich characters, the perennial New York Times bestselling author returns with a sensational novel that follows the travels of one couple though a tumultuous summer.

Dorothea Benton Frank s magical stories take us deep into the heart of her beloved Carolina Lowcountry. In her novels, this lush landscape comes alive in all its vibrancy and color. She ignites all of our senses with her vivid descriptions of landscape and atmosphere. In her novels you hear the ocean washing the shore on different islands so profoundly that you can nearly hear the sea gulls squawking, too.

This is a story of people whose lives are changing a southern gentleman returning home to lead a more peaceful life and his talented New York wife who is not quite sure she is ready to make the transition. They are moving north to south, fast pace versus slow pace, downsizing. And while they are doing this, they are getting glimpses into other people s lives over the course of a summer, holidays that will amuse, shock and transform them.

This irresistible story is home to captivating characters as funny, complicated, and real as our best friends husbands and wives, mothers and daughters, friends and family who wrestle with the complexities, pain, and joys familiar to us all. Finally, we ll come to recognize the face of love, the kind that deepens and endures but only because one woman makes a tremendous leap of faith. That leap changes them all.

This second book is by the ever popular, ever funny Jennifer Weiner. Her books offer a hilarious getaway every time.

Goodnight Nobody
by Jennifer Weiner
Hardcover ~ Pub date September 2005

Goodnight Nobody is bestselling author Jennifer Weiner's attempt at writing a mystery, with a healthy dose of the author's chick lit sensibilities thrown in for good measure. While this Desperate Housewives meets Sex in the City murder mystery won't make readers shake in their Manolo Blahniks, it will provide the obligatory humor and compassion to which fans of Weiner's Good in Bed, In Her Shoes, and Little Earthquakes have grown accustomed.

Kate Klein is a feisty, charmingly insecure Connecticut housewife who trades in a life of late-night karaoke sing-a-longs and West Village brunches with her best friend Janie for a world of mini-vans and Mommy and Me pilates classes. Life in Upchurch, Connecticut, heats up when Kate discovers picture-perfect wife and mother Kitty Cavanaugh dead on the pickled maple hardwood floor of her recently remodeled kitchen. A former chronicler of celebrity gossip, Kate takes it upon herself to solve the mystery of Kitty's murder and the disappearance of Lexi Hagen-Holdt, another Upchurch supermom. Along the way, the mysteries and disappointments in Kate's personal life begin to unravel, including her marriage to the kind-yet-uptight Ben, and her unresolved crush on Evan McKenna, a former neighbor with whom a one-night tryst ended in disaster. Thrown in for comic relief, and perhaps to show the depth of Weiner's talents as a writer, are Kate's twin boys and adorably sophisticated 5-year old daughter Sophie ("Sophie was sitting on the toilet, applying lipstick and waiting her turn...").

Goodnight Nobody is chock full of plot twists and turns which can be overwhelming and superfluous. However, Weiner's charm and grace are usually enough to rescue readers from these moments of confusion, and reaffirm our commitment to this endearing contemporary voice. -- Gisele Toueg

My thoughts about All Summer Long ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"Whether the subject of change was partners, possessions, or places, some people had an easy time letting go. A fixture in the crown of Manhattan's classic interior designers, Olivia Ritchie was not such a person."

I have read several of Dorothea's books now and I have loved all of them. This one, All Summer Long, takes the reader into the world of the super rich. Olivia is the talented interior designer to those who have the money. And I, as the reader, lived vicariously in that rich world for a short time.

As in Dorothea's other stories, this one is filled with great characters; some you come to love and some you'd love to hate. There is such a wide range of characters, from the humble couple from Nebraska who are definitely in over their heads when they attend the wedding of their daughter, to the bitchy ex-wife who stirs up so much trouble. They all come to life for the reader.

And lessons are learned as the characters grow and change; money does not always equal happiness and you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Cliché lessons, maybe, but it was a wonderful journey watching the characters figure it all out.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for the TLC Book Tour and am voluntarily reviewing it.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? March 6. 2017

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

This edition of IMWAYR? is a very condensed version. Hubby and I are taking a few days off and will be relaxing in the Black Hills when this goes live. It's spring break at the university where I work, so the library is really dead and it's a good time to get away. I plan on doing a lot of reading but since I am not sure if I will be connected, I am getting this post ready on Saturday before we head out of town. I'll catch up next week.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a great week. Happy reading!

Once again, we talk about the weather. Earlier this week, we had temps in the 60s and then there were blizzard warnings in the area, with predictions of possibly 18 inches of snow. We ended up getting nothing at all but areas just south of us got 12 inches of the white stuff. Yikes! Anyway, nice weather is just around the corner, right?

Other than that, nothing too exciting going on right now - just reading, working, and hanging out with hubby and a few grandkiddos. Life goes on!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a great week. Happy reading!
