My thoughts about Blueberry Hill ~~
'My sister killed herself, and I will forever carry the weight of it being partly my fault. I didn't hand her a weapon, but I looked the other way.'
How does that opening line grab your attention? It sure caught mine. Bette is one of my favorite authors so I had to keep reading to find out why she feels so guilty about her sister's death. What a heartwarming, touching, sad but beautiful story.
'In that last year, I asked her, "If you could do it all over again, would you do anything differently?" She shrugged. "Maybe." That was the closest I ever saw Donna come to having regrets.'
Bette and her sister Donna were as different as night and day but you get from the story that they loved each other deeply. They had their rough spots but what sisters and families don't go through that?
There were some tough times in the book, the tough times of Donna's story. It was sad at times, and heartbreaking. But you could sense the love that was there as well. It's always sad when some one dies young but we can learn a lot about death and living from the experiences that Bette's writes about. I think I would have liked to have known Donna. She has a great sister in Bette, so she had to have been a wonderful woman as well.
'Part of being a sister is sticking together in good times and bad.'Blueberry Hill, just like Bette's other books, is so beautifully written that I just get lost in her words. It's almost like listening to beautiful music, I just forget everthing that's happening around me and enjoy the wonderful world I am in.
