This OR That #Giveaway Week 47 ~ Finding Libbie by Deanna Lynn Sletten OR Nearly Departed in Deadwood by Ann Charles #NearlyDepartedInDeadwood #FindingLibbie

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves and to share some of the many books I have. It's a way for me to cull my collection and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Today I have books by two of my very favorite authors of all time. I have extra copies of these books. No way I'm giving up my personal copies! 😍 I wanted to introduce you to both of them and their books so you can enjoy them as much as I do.

I have met both Deanna and Ann several times and consider them friends—friends who just happen to write amazing stories.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

Finding Libbie
By Deanna Lynn Sletten
Paperback ~ Published September 2016

Poring over a dusty hatbox of photographs in her grandmother’s closet, Emily Prentice is shocked to discover her father was married to his high school sweetheart before meeting her mother.

In the summer of 1968, Jack and Libbie fall in love under the spell of their small town, untouched by the chaos of the late sixties. Though Libbie’s well-to-do parents disapprove of Jack’s humble family and his aspiration to become a mechanic, she marries Jack a year after they graduate high school. But soon their happiness crumbles as Libbie’s mental state unravels and she is drawn to alcohol and drugs. Despite his efforts to help her, Jack loses the woman he loves and is forced to move on with his life.

Now that Emily’s mother has passed away, Jack is alone again, and Emily grows obsessed with the beautiful woman who had given her father such joy. Determined to find Libbie, Emily pieces together the couple’s fragmented past. But is it too late for happy endings?

Finding Libbie is one of my favorites of Deanna's books and one that I have read several times. And as I have said before, I'm typically not a re-reader of books but this one did it for me. It is incredible!

Nearly Departed in Deadwood
by Ann Charles
Paperback ~ Published January 2011

Little girls are vanishing from Deadwood, South Dakota. Fearing her daughter might be next, single mom, Violet Parker, is desperate to find the monster behind the abductions.

With her savings dwindling and just three weeks left to sell her first house or lose her Realtor job, Violet is ecstatic when a handsome jeweler hires her to sell his century-old, Victorian masterpiece until she sees the dilapidated dwelling.

Now, if she could just convince her only buyer to stop rejecting vintage homes as if they're haunted. Short on time and long on worry, she refuses to give up her dream of a fresh start in Deadwood.

But with a malicious coworker trying to get her fired, a secret admirer sending her creepy messages, and a sexy stranger hiding skeletons in his closet, will Violet end up as one of Deadwood's dearly departed?

Nearly Departed in Deadwood is book #1 in an amazing, fun series. I love all the characters and sit on pins and needles waiting for the next book. Ann is up to book 12 in this series and I can't wait to see what's coming in book 13!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? October 29, 2018

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's an opportunity to visit other blogs and to comment on their reads. And ... you can add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

The weather here has been beautiful. I thought we were going to miss fall and go right into winter, but the temps have warmed up, the rain has stopped, and we've been able to get some patio, fire-pit time in. Love it!

I had a great reading week, getting through several books this past week. Also, on Thursday one of my most favorite authors, Deanna Lynn Sletten, was able to attend our book club as we discussed her wonderful book Finding Libbie. I love all of her books, but Libbie really touched my heart and is—for now—my favorite of her books. Read my thoughts here

Finding Libbie

Everyone loved meeting Deanna and it was a very interesting evening, learning more about Libbie, Deanna, and the world of writing. Sadly, we forgot all about taking pictures so here's one from when I originally met her 3 years ago.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!

We've been enjoying a beautiful week here this past week. Temps in the 60's so that means some patio time with the neighbors, which has been wonderful. Saturday we went to a birthday party, so it was fun to see some of the family again. Sunday started off as a lazy day but we did get some work done on my library. We are trying to get the painting done this week but all the prep before we get to that point is so tedious. If it EVER gets done, I'll be sure to post pictures. I love it already, even without the walls painted.

I've been trying to work through my NetGalley list and get my percentage up. I was bad about requesting so many books awhile back and really fell behind. So for the older books on my list, I put them in page number order and have been reading the lower paged books first, since they are faster reads. I'm getting some crossed off and staring to feel better about my NetGalley TBR list. This seems to be working for me. How do you decide what to read next? I'm sure everyone had long lists and big piles!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all have a good week. Happy reading!

My thoughts about Finding Libbie ~~

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first line.)

First line'You never know what the day will bring, Emily Prentice thought as she stepped outside her townhouse into the May sunshine.'

I absolutely loved Finding Libbie!! I have read all of Deanna's books and this one is right up there at the top as one of her best. Her stories just keep getting better and better.

Finding Libbie is a book full of memories. And sorrow. And heartache. And tears. And love.

Emily discovers, after her mother passes away, that her father had been married before. After finding a box full of old pictures, Emily's grandmother tells her the story of her father's first love, his first wife, a love that had been hidden away in the closet all these years.

Jack and Libbie were so much in love and had such a beautiful relationship. They were indeed soul mates. And then things started to go bad. They went through so much together and my heart broke with the pain that they were both feeling. Sometimes love has to be sacrificed and what a terrible cost that can be.

As Emily learns more and more about Jack and Libbie's story, she can't get Libbie out of her mind.

It's just that dad and Libbie's story is so sad, I feel a need to find out if Libbie is okay, wherever she is.

This is such a beautiful, heartbreaking story, so full of emotions. I was completely in love with the characters, the love story, and the perseverance of Emily as she tried to find Libbie. I felt all of the love, happiness, frustration, and determination that were on the pages of the book. I laughed, loved, and cried right along with the characters. This is a story that had me experiencing so many feelings. I loved every minute of it!

Finding Libbie is truly a story of memories and love. I am a memory keeper and I have the boxes to prove it. I love the references in the book to the keeping of memories and how important memories are. Even memory smells are important.... and so strong.

Emily felt comforted by her familiar scent. She smelled of spices from baking and flowery fabric softener that lingered on her soft cotton blouse. To Emily, it was the smell of love.

Deanna's words brought back memories for me as I was reading this lovely book. The 1966 Mustang—one of my favorite cars and one that I am lucky enough to have in my garage. And the Carnegie library that Libbie lovedI loved our small town Carnegie library and this stirred up memories for me as I spent so much time there growing up.

Finding Libbie is a beautiful, sweet love story that will break your heart. It is a story full of sad tears and happy tears. You will not want to put it down and you will not want it to end.
