I have sooooo many books! The Book Spotlight Giveaway feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves and to share some of the many books I have. This feature is a way for my to cull my collection and to give someone else the opportunity to enjoy these treasures.

I loved the two books that I've read in this series. I'm not sure why I haven't read the third one. I really need to add it to my TBR list. This is any intriguing story that kept me spell-bound to the end. I know you'll enjoy it too! You can read my thoughts here.

Brunonia Barry is the New York Times and international best selling author of The Lace Reader, The Map of True Places, and The Fifth Petal, which will be released in January 2017. Her work has been translated into more than thirty languages. She was the first American author to win the International Women’s Fiction Festival’s Baccante Award and was a past recipient of Ragdale Artists’ Colony’s Strnad Fellowship as well as the winner of New England Book Festival’s award for Best Fiction, a People Magazine Pick, and Amazon’s Best of the Month.

(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)

First line—"Isn't it a little late to be praying? Tom Dayle thought but did not say. The child sat on a gurney just behind the privacy curtain in one of Salem Hospital's ER stalls, clutching what. to his lapsed Catholic eyes, appeared to be rosary beads."

I previously read The Lace Reader and I have to say I loved it. I was super excited to see that this author wrote a second book to continue the story. The subject of the Salem witch trials has always fascinated me and I love reading anything related to that topic and that time period. These stories take place in modern times but the people and events of the present are affected by the people and events of the past.

The discovery of a dead body may be related to another set of deaths. As the chief of police tries to get to the bottom of the current case, he goes back and digs through the cold case of the 1989 murders. The surviving little girl from that case has come back to town to find the loved one that she thought was dead.  

The Fifth Petal is an intriguing story of murder and mystery, as well as being full of wonderful characters. The author does a great job of making the people in the story believable and interesting. I was totally absorbed in this story and hope that the author has more to come.

As this post goes live, we should be welcoming our new granddaughter into our lives. She is scheduled to be born this morning. It is always so exciting to have a baby join our world. This little one will put us at 8 grandchildren, some biological and some I call our 'bonus' grandchildren. I love them all and we are so blessed!

Other than that, we had a great Christmas and it was wonderful to spend some time with our extended families. I took the week off of work after Christmas, enjoyed some lazy days, and got a little bit of reading done. I also tried to catch up on some of my review posts. I'm looking forward to some great reads in 2017.

Brrrr! We have had a weekend of frigid temps here in South Dakota. Lows were around -33 with horrible wind to make it even worse. Luckily, I didn't have go out and stayed nice and toasty warm in my home. I spent the weekend baking, listening to Christmas music, and reading. Doesn't get much better than that!

No baby news yet. They may find out more on Wednesday. They are just hoping to not have to spend Christmas in the hospital. The baby will come when she comes, as they always do, but it's making it kind of hard to make travel plans.

Well, we got dumped on during the snowstorm that hit us this weekend. It started Friday night with just a dusting but then it kept on snowing all day Saturday and into Sunday morning. We ended up with 6 and 1/2 inches, with lots of wind so some places seemed deeper than that. Luckily it was a very light, fluffy snow and luckily we live in a townhouse so all of the snow shoveling was the responsibility of someone else. Yay! It actually was a very pretty snow as it was coming down. 

Hopefully we'll find out today when our new baby granddaughter is going to make her appearance. Other than that, we are just getting ready for the holidays. We travel to Nebraska to spend time with my husband's family on Christmas eve day/night and then with my family on Christmas day. It's a busy time but it's the only time we get to see some of our family members.
