This OR That #Giveaway Week 24 ~ Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia OR Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares #MexicanGothic #SisterhoodEverlasting

I have sooooo many books!

The This or That Giveaway! feature that I post every Saturday is a way for me to clear my shelves and to share some of the many books I have. It's a way for me to cull my collection and give someone else the chance to enjoy these treasures.

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

This first book is one I didn't know much about but had been seeing everyone rave about it everywhere. I got my hands on a copy and dove in. It's not my usual type of read and I found it a little strange but it was very good.

Mexican Gothic
by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Hardcover ~ Pub date June 2020

After receiving a frantic letter from her newly-wed cousin begging for someone to save her from a mysterious doom, Noemí Taboada heads to High Place, a distant house in the Mexican countryside. She’s not sure what she will find—her cousin’s husband, a handsome Englishman, is a stranger, and Noemí knows little about the region.

Noemí is also an unlikely rescuer: She’s a glamorous debutante, and her chic gowns and perfect red lipstick are more suited for cocktail parties than amateur sleuthing. But she’s also tough and smart, with an indomitable will, and she is not afraid: Not of her cousin’s new husband, who is both menacing and alluring; not of his father, the ancient patriarch who seems to be fascinated by Noemí; and not even of the house itself, which begins to invade Noemí’s dreams with visions of blood and doom.

Her only ally in this inhospitable abode is the family’s youngest son. Shy and gentle, he seems to want to help Noemí, but might also be hiding dark knowledge of his family’s past. For there are many secrets behind the walls of High Place. The family’s once colossal wealth and faded mining empire kept them from prying eyes, but as Noemí digs deeper she unearths stories of violence and madness.

And Noemí, mesmerized by the terrifying yet seductive world of High Place, may soon find it impossible to ever leave this enigmatic house behind.

This next book is book #5 in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. I have to admit that I haven't read any of the books but did see the movie. I thought it was very good and I enjoyed it, I just never got into the books. I did read Ann's book The Here and Now and really liked it. You can read my thoughts here

Sisterhood Everlasting
(Sisterhood #5)
by Ann Brashares
ARC ~ Pub date August 2011

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Ann Brashares comes the welcome return of the characters whose friendship became a touchstone for a generation. Now Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bridget have grown up, starting their lives on their own. And though the jeans they shared are long gone, the sisterhood is everlasting.

Despite having jobs and men that they love, each knows that something is missing: the closeness that once sustained them. Carmen is a successful actress in New York, engaged to be married, but misses her friends. Lena finds solace in her art, teaching in Rhode Island, but still thinks of Kostos and the road she didn’t take. Bridget lives with her longtime boyfriend, Eric, in San Francisco, and though a part of her wants to settle down, a bigger part can’t seem to shed her old restlessness.

Then Tibby reaches out to bridge the distance, sending the others plane tickets for a reunion that they all breathlessly await. And indeed, it will change their lives forever—but in ways that none of them could ever have expected.

As moving and life-changing as an encounter with long-lost best friends, Sisterhood Everlasting is a powerful story about growing up, losing your way, and finding the courage to create a new one.

  1. I prefer to read only one book at a time, although when I'm reading a nonfiction piece, I always grab a fiction book to read too.

  2. I tend to read multiple books at the same time, but they all tend to be non-fiction. If fiction, only one at a time.

  3. "Do you prefer to read one book at a time or do you have multiple books going at the same time?"
I prefer to read one book at a time, but sometimes I fail at this goal!

  4. I always have a least two books going at once, but different formats. I'm always reading one, either print or e-book and then I've also always got an audiobook that I listen to while walking or working around the house.

  6. I tend to read one physical/ebook and one audiobook at a time. Sometimes if I'm reading a particularly long book I'll split it into sections and read smaller books in between sections.
