Before I Let You Go
Before I Let You Go by Kelly Rimmer
Paperback, 384 pages
Expected publication: April 3rd 2018 by Graydon House
The 2:00 a.m. call is the first time Lexie Vidler has heard her sister’s voice in years. Annie is a drug addict, a thief, a liar—and in trouble, again. Lexie has always bailed Annie out, given her money, a place to sleep, sent her to every kind of rehab. But this time, she’s not just strung out—she’s pregnant and in premature labor. If she goes to the hospital, she’ll lose custody of her baby—maybe even go to prison. But the alternative is unthinkable.
As weeks unfold, Lexie finds herself caring for her fragile newborn niece while her carefully ordered life is collapsing around her. She’s in danger of losing her job, and her fiancé only has so much patience for Annie’s drama. In court-ordered rehab, Annie attempts to halt her downward spiral by confronting long-buried secrets from the sisters’ childhood, ghosts that Lexie doesn’t want to face. But will the journey heal Annie, or lead her down a darker path?
Both candid and compassionate, Before I Let You Go explores a hotly divisive topic and asks how far the ties of family love can be stretched before they finally break.
(I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.)
First line—"When my landline rings at 2:00 am on a Thursday morning, I know who's at the other end of the line before I pick up. Only one person in my life would call at that hour; the same person who wouldn't hesitate to ask for something after two years of silence, the same person who wouldn't give a single thought to the fact that I need to be at work by 8:00 am."
Before I Let You Go is a heartbreaking, emotional story that I absolutely devoured. There was so much going on and so much drama that I didn't want to put it down. The book starts out pretty intense and I quickly became involved with the characters and their lives.
Lexie gets an early morning call from her sister, a sister she pretty much raised growing up but hasn't heard from in over 2 years. She knows right away that her sister must be in trouble. That's when Lexie's world starts spinning out of control and as a reader, I experienced that chaos and drama, with so many ups and downs and questions, just like Lexie did.
This book will take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride but it's a ride that you are going to want to go on. I loved this book and I'll definitely be reading more books by this author!
I received an ARC of Before I Let You Go from Little Bird Publicity in exchange for my honest opinion.
